The GLP-1 Thread

Doesn’t it also depend if GLP-1s are covered by Medicare?

I am not super familiar with the structure of their programs but given its the US…its probably not cheap.

That would be a confounding issue on the order of the “correlation <> causation” . . .

But I wonder what CA, FL, AZ, TX, MN would look like if one controls for influences like “sun birds”.

MN…you mean NM right?

I am sure there a flow of healthier and wealthier people in that direction. But they are taking with them a lower BMI and higher life expectancy…isn’t the conclusion still the same?

Been noticing JB’s suits look a lot looser and in his interviews, looks like he’s been slimming down:

Maybe he’s on glp-1?

That is very likely. He has lost a lot of excess fat around his neck area (this is where a lot of visceral fat accumulates in obese people - which leads to sleep apnea issues)

One of the things I have noticed while on Mounjaro is the astonishing anti-inflammatory effects. Every single health marker for inflammation has improved in my blood tests, while also improving some joint issues I had.

Seems Wapo is picking this up now:

Nope. MN.

I know quite a few people who “migrate” to MN in the summer because they don’t like the heat in TX/AZ.

Swiss Re has looked a bit deeper at the impact of GLP-1s on mortality and the effects look very solid.

Going to make life interesting for life insurers and reinsurers.

Only for obese people, I believe.
Would be a shit logical leap for non-obese people to believe their mortality odds would reduce in the same way.

Oh, and, there goes SS.

Don’t worry, HHS is on it!

Found out recently that Wegovy got FDA approval to be used to treat fatty liver disease in the US.

There is also another drug approved last year for fatty liver disease (Rezdifra) that is also pretty effective.

I’ve been on both for the last 18 months; and my liver condition (MASH) has improved significantly.

Looks like the wholesale price of Wegovy is set to double because of Trump’s tariffs. Mounjaro is exempt due to it being manufactured inside the US.

Hemilibra doubling - that is not a discretionary med. High cost medical care gonna get higher cost.

i hope the gene therapy drugs are made in the US! doubling those will be something

Added in page 2. Would that be Yescarta?

Because damn..that is expensive.

Yescarta is a cell therapy and is likely used more often than the gene therapies would be (really rare diseases). They are like 2m - 4m

They also help non-obese people because they reduce visceral fat around the mid-section.

Quite a lot of new studies coming out now and the results are pretty amazing.

Bummer. I lose only pounds.

The FDA in the US recently approved Wegovy for treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (which I was diagnosed with about 2 years ago).
