In July 2021 in “A Reminder of where America is heading” I posted this list of the characteristics of Fascism.

  1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism

  7. Obsession with National Security

  10. Labor Power is Suppressed

  11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts

  12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment

  13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption

  14. Fraudulent Elections

If you have been paying attention you can link news stories under each of the characteristics as evidence to the fascist nature of the MAGA/GOP/Conservative/billionaire movement. We are now in the home stretch. Twelve months from now their breaking of the American government will be complete.

How Fascist control. It’s all about power and control.

  1. Fascists do not lead they control. There are no directions for society other than the ones that point to the fascists.
  2. Everything is binary, “good” things give them power, “bad” things do not give them power. Good/bad is defined by them subjectively based on how they perceive the effect.
  3. There have no limits. They will take all ownership all individuality. Anything that does not submit to their authority is considered defiance.
  4. Defiance must be rendered powerless either through force or through subversion.
  5. Rules for thee not for me. They will use your beliefs against you.

To survive fascism you must either submit or remain on the fringes of society.

  • without being a member of a group that is a defined enemy of the state
  • without having enough power or wealth that gives a fascist reason to take it
  • willing to at least outwardly do the little salutes and sing along to their self praises
  • of by being a fascist yourself.

Hopefully we can make them stumble in the home stretch and then we have the stomach to beat them mercilessly and cart them off like ICE agents against the defiant.

Here’s how to fight back

  1. Legal defiance in all things. Use the rule of law against them and work within the shreds of the rule of law that remain.
  2. Vote, encourage others to vote. There is only one issue that matters, fascism or not fascism.
  3. Do not count on the elections to save you. Election corruption is happening and even if they fail at corrupting the election, they will ignore the results unless they get what they want.
  4. The tighter they squeeze their control, the more defiant you need to become.

I’ve been out protesting, and the growing numbers even in winter conditions have been encouraging… but the fact that a concentration camp is operating without pause not an hour away from me is discouraging. It’s great that we get MAGA people cursing at us at protests; shows we’re having impact.

Even some of the more MAGA people in my life have been falling really quiet and failing to defend their actions. But it feels like a lot of them are still generally OK with our direction.
