Speak fo yo’self. We had a bangin year.
Yeah, the coverup is unforgivable. And honestly, I can’t forgive his lack of apology. He should be upfront and remorseful about having made a horrible decision. Because even if he had no reason to know that then, we know today that it was a horrible decision.
Fair enough… I actually debated whether I should include medical insurance in there or not.
Assuming it was a bad year for life insurers who don’t have large blocks of immediate annuities that have (somewhat) offsetting mortality risks though.
Yeah the no remorse bugs me too. I have not watched the briefings in a while, and not sure if he changed his tune, but he pussy foot around taking responsibility before. I think the press briefings stopped since the sexual harassment claims happened
I’m wondering if his lawyers told him not to apologize for fear of wrongful death lawsuits. An apology might be too close to an admission of wrongdoing.
Even if he could successfully defend such lawsuits (not a guarantee) the time and expense in doing so could be considerable.
Wrongful death lawsuits? He’s a governor with sovereign immunity, not a corporate executive with immunity he placed into law. It is totes politico.
Could they sue the state? Maybe it was the state AG rather than personal lawyers?
I dunno, just wondering aloud.
There would be a high hurdle in asserting Cuomo’s (or other state officials) actions regarding nursing homes and Covid fall in the realm of personal actions as opposed to governmental actions, which is what sovereign immunity is about. IANAL, but I don’t think there is a case to be had. Are there any suits that are proceeding currently?
How could that have been anything other than a government action? This is exactly what sovereign immunity is designed for.
I am not a lawyer either… just thinking that when people die needlessly their families will typically be looking for deep pockets to sue.
So Let’s take a look at Fox News approach. On foxnew dot com after leading with the Cuomo story for days they still have a picture article titled “Ignore Everything The View’s’ Behar gives stunning response to Cuomo sex scandal” After the first inflamitory paragraph later in the article they state “It was unclear whether Behar truly felt Democrats should ignore the situation entirely or give the allegations a full hearing.”
A search for any coverage of Cawthorn and harrassment just brings up 3 articles about Cuomo. They do have an article about Cawthorn quotes from CPAC from 4 days ago. Ironically the article ends with the following line
“Cawthorn said that the number one principle should be personal responsibility, but Democrats “do not want us to be responsible.””
I’m getting the impression that a lot of dems don’t really like Cuomo to begin with, so it wasn’t really a stretch for them to turn on him.
I was reading about his marriage to Kerry Kennedy, and sounds like he flat out did not get along with the Kennedys and they thought he was a jerk.
I dunno, his approval rating shot up when he showed great leadership and stepped into the vacuum left by the POTUS during a crisis. Just as you’d hope a governor of a state like NY would do. If he didn’t have these scandals I think he’d be pondering a presidential run himself.
I used to work for the NY DOI. I remember when he came over and he strong armed the PEF union in negotiations. Basically, at the time in 2010/2011 he was using strong armed tactics to force the union into a bad deal. The union voted against the deal. And then Cuomo announced that they would fire a bunch of employees from the NY DOI. Forcing the union to do a revote a couple months later accepting their worst deal in a long time.
I am not really commenting on whether that was right or wrong in the context of should NY DOI employees get paid less or more ten years ago. More commenting that I have always viewed him as a bully.
That’s been his style from day one.
Regarding his policy about putting COVID positive patients in nursing homes, at the time it was unclear what the best solution was. My wife is a PA (we now live in NJ) and she was saying that her hospital had the same situation because you didn’t have beds for new patients, if you couldn’t discharge the prior patients since no one would accept them.
To me the issue here is that I believe the NY Departments asked for the detailed data and Cuomo/his team were hiding the details.
I think a lot of people view him as a bully
Yeah it’s really not surprising hearing various members of the NY government call him a bully
That might be part of why dems did not come out to defend him other than his groupies who never had to deal with him directly. They might not actually like him.
yeah, people who didn’t have to deal with him directly love him. is that true of people who do?
I don’t think he was ever planning to run for president. He claimed repeatedly he just wants to be governor of NY. that seems to be in jeopardy now though. bummer for him.
cuomo covid press briefing now!
drinking out of my cuomo mug while watching it that my ao bff got me
