Actually, it’s Daylight Saving Time, without the “s” (which is commonly used in error).
Did you read my post?
I did not know that. Learned something new today.
Even the thread title is wrong. I don’t think I ever heard it without the “s”. If it was written differently I didn’t notice.
Huh? That is clearly false. China plus India alone account for over 36% of the world’s population. Add in Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Russia and we are already at 51.86% of the world’s population.
Mexico is the only country in the top 10 that has nationwide DST. The majority, but not all, of the United States has DST. The other 8 countries in the top 10 have zero DST anywhere.
So, Daylight Aving Time?
DAT makes sense to me!
Dat stupid thing we do every spring, amirite?
and you fall for it every autumn to boot
Someone posted this last year.

It makes it clear why i am a huge fan of changing the clocks, but people who live in other parts of the country, or have different bedtimes, aren’t.
TL; DR
Is this where he solely focused on the assumption that the only things you could possibly dislike were too little daylight during your waking hours, and that it’s impossible to feel that there’s too much of it?
Because my problem is that if you want to do something outside in the summer it’s way too hot to enjoy it unless you wait until at least 10:30 or 11:00 PM. I’d rather it got dark earlier in the summer.
In fact if we had to switch I’d rather do exactly the opposite of what we do now… keep the sunsets more constant rather than the sunrises. I don’t care when the sun comes up; I care when it goes down. So if we’d Spring Back and Fall Forward that would be preferable to the current arrangement. Not as good as not changing at all, but better than what we have now.
So in order of preference:
- Permanent standard time
- Permanent daylight time and shift everything to be later
- Spring Back; Fall Forward
- Current situation: Fall Back; Spring Forward
Hmmm, we could call it “Evening Saving Time”. Which is the same acronym as Eastern Standard Time, so maybe problematic.
“Sunset Saving Time”? Or “Sunset Preservation Time”???
I’ve never tried SPT. I wonder if I’d think that the advantages outweighed the hassles of changing the clocks. Maybe I would. I think we should try this. Let’s adjust the clocks back TWO hours this coming Sunday and see!
Lol, you hate long summer evenings? I love them. I’ve fantasized about retiring, and buying a house in Finland for northern summer and a house in southern Chile for the southern summer.
No I love long summer evenings… I’d just like them to start before 10:30 PM.
I have a strong suspicion that Northern Finland and southern Chile are not unbearably hot at 10:00 PM.
I believe this is known as changing time zones.
My preference remains:
*quit the seasonal time change,
*set the time at the half-hour between daylight and standard time, and
*shift the Eastern/Central and Central/Mountain time zone boundaries a bit to the east. (Indianapolis really should be in Central, and West Texas really should be in Mountain.)
Yes indeed!
While that’s not exactly what I would do it’s better than what we have now.
I would add UP to the list of places that should be in central time. I recall driving northwest from Green Bay, Wisconsin to Houghton, Michigan and changing from Central to Eastern time. While driving west.
