Yes, that’s unusual. Not unheard of, but unusual. And the school should be able to deal with it appropriately as I mentioned.
What theoretical problem is this suppose to address? One would hope that at least as much time and effort is being spent on things like kids being decapitated and so pulverized in a mass shooting that they have to be identified by DNA samples, but what do I know?
I wondered that too. When I was in 5th grade one random day they pulled all of the girls into one classroom and the boys into another. I think the boys just had free time… not positive. But the girls watched a movie about menstruating featuring a lot of the actresses from the movie Annie. And then the teachers passed out a pamphlet and a bag with free samples of Always products. And maybe we could ask questions… I don’t exactly recall.
I can’t begin to imagine why something along those lines is considered problematic by anyone. Or why it’s a political issue.
Liberal tears.
I get why some people don’t want sex ed taught in school. I disagree. But there’s a lot of personal values and religious rules surrounding the decision to have sex or not have sex.
But that’s not really true about menstruation. Pretty much all biological females are going to menstruate regardless of morals, values, religious beliefs, personal decisions, etc. And they have no direct control over the timing of when it happens either.
My bet? It was men who wrote the bill, and they didn’t want any education about “sexuality” for innocent children. And it didn’t even occur to them that the usual elementary school curriculum for “sex ed” is age appropriate and kinda important to girls.
I bet within 10 years or so of that lesson you were having sex. It’s a slippery slope…
More seriously, although it’s likely not something they conciously think about, they probably don’t want girls thinking that their bajingos aren’t something they shoud be scared and ashamed of.
(I probably could word that with a lot fewer negatives, but I’m tired…)
Keep those white girls ignorant so they can pop out desirable babies for adoption?
I doubt that’s the goal. I think they want girls in general and white girls in particular to remain “pure” until their wedding nights.
Not true at all. As we all know, women menstruate because God cursed them for their disobedience.

Sure, that’s WHY we menstruate (Thanks Eve) but it doesn’t change the fact that any individual female youth today has zero choice in the matter. (Adult females do have the choice to go on certain hormonal birth control that stops menstruation or have a hysterectomy, but these choices aren’t available or appropriate for elementary-age girls.)
We really need some legislation to stop that, like God wants us to.
Huh?!
I read that we give birth in pain due to the whole garden of eden fiasco, but not that we menstruate. For real?
Oops, I mixed it up somewhere in my brain. Thx lucy.
I guess technically it’s the cramps and other PMS unpleasantness that’s related to the original sin (according to two United Methodist pastors when this came up on a mission trip). Possibly not menstruation itself. Maybe if it wasn’t for Eve’s sin we’d still menstruate but it would be a better experience.
Still… did they have menstrual products in the Garden of Eden? I’ve kind of always assumed that Eve didn’t menstruate at all until after she ate the forbidden fruit. But possibly I’m wrong about that.
Other animals do (e.g. dogs in heat).
True. Do they have pain in childbirth too?
i don’t think this is really traditionally considered true, at least in western christianity.
original sin affected primarily the will (and the intellect for protestants), not the flesh. our broken will means that we feel excessive sexual lust for each other. and maybe the fall means we mind the pains of childbirth too much because our will isn’t strong enough to keep focused on god’s love.
Abortion thread takes unexpected and religious turn.
