I wonder if you have a link? The one here is just to LinkedIn homepage I think
LinkedIn doesn’t make it easy … let’s try this:
Thanks! That link happens to also have a link to what it’s in opposition to, so works haha
I have to say I’m tempted to email Southern Connecticut State University and ask if this is consistent with their beliefs.
I do sympathize with the concerns about the use of the phrase " equality will never be achieved until equity is our guiding principle"
But jeez that guy just seems keen to complain about something. I misinterpreted that the CAS had done some extreme thing
Huh, reading the second-to-last paragraph i think he actually supports all the things the CAS actually wants to do.
Does he? Or does he just say that to sound like he is being reasonable? Publishing an open letter opposing a relatively innocuous statement in support of diversity makes me wonder if he wants to publicly pretend he’s reasonable but intends to fight any actual changes.
That letter is 100% academic redneck bullshit. They got offended, and decided to sit down and pick apart the details and issue that as their ‘concerns’. The details aren’t their concerns, the fact that the CAS is starting to support diversity is their concern - don’t let them distract anyone from that fact.
If they actually supported it, they’d either have not written the letter, or they’d have written something like this:
“We support what the cas is doing 100% but think there may be some minor details overlooked that naysayers are going to focus on, particularly…list… We think the CAS should continue down this road, but make sure they clean up that stuff quickly.”
And they wouldn’t have posted it publicly.
I repeat, this is 100% academic redneck bullshit.
Seems to be the actuarial way …
Yeah, reading their screed, that’s what i thought they should have done. They legit found some questions that should be answered, but the constructive way to address them would have been to say, “overall this is terrific, and we are excited the CAS is moving in this direction. But we’d appreciate if the CAS could clarify a, b, and c”
I get what you’re saying, and why. And most of us in this community are prone to fondling minutea. But there’s a difference between our conversation and the linkedin one. When we talk about diversity here, we’ve got bright people asking challenging questions of new ideas, but they’re not meant in an unfriendly way. And I think our conversation is treated as educational both by participants and readers.
typical mod over-optimism
Yeah the letter is not worded in a friendly way at all. Comes off as distasteful for such delicate subject.
I’ll help:
“Dear SCSU,
Congratulations on existing for this long without my nor several billion people’s knowledge…”
“Now, when it comes right down to it, I think you’re emphasizing the “Southern” part of your name far too much when employing such-and-such with these extremely backwoods opinions…”

Just filled out an SOA survey on COVID and WFH. Gender options included Non-Binary
Given how many Bell Curve supporters we had on the AO, is it really surprising we have a problem? I was appalled when some asshat on the AO dismissed a Black candidate for the CAS Board as basically nothing but a diversity pick.
From MH’s twitter feed (I think this is public info):
But, why should I have to be terrified of needing to pee?
While I’m comfortable with seggregated bathrooms, cause, you know, my life, when the idea is challenged the only rational solution to me is non-seggregated bathrooms. That may not fix the concern some folks of having to use an opposite sex bathroom, but I still think non-seggregated fixes most problems. And is far easier to implement.
Given my twitter @ is my actual name, yeah — not worried about it. As I said at the start of this thread — I’m intentionally being very public about who I am because I want it to be easier for the next person to take the steps that took me so long to take.
seems like non segregated anything fixes most problems.
