For, what, it must be almost a decade, I’ve been running XBMC or Kodi on a Raspberry Pi with a hard drive full of movies connected to it as a media player. My Raspberry Pi died recently and, with the continued chip shortage, I can’t seem to find a replacement. But it dawns on me that I’ve got an unused Windows laptop that I could use instead, plus an older Macbook. I see that Kodi will run on Windows or macOS, but I’m wondering if there are better choices that I should consider. Bonus points for free options. BTW, streaming is OK, but I currently have that intentionally separate through a roku to keep a kid away from streaming on his own and I’ll probably leave it that way. Any suggestions?
