Spam flood today

Quick update on the mess that was earlier today.
They were registering users and posting faster than I could delete. So I turned off new registrations for now. I spent some time deleteing hundreds of users and I think thousands of posts so the content is gone as are the users.

I’m going to keep registrations turned off for now until I figure out how to block this from happening again.

In any event, we seem to be all fixed up now.

I call for a complete and total shutdown until our representatives can figure out what the hell is going on!

I’m curious: do you know anything about where the attack was coming from? Seems strange to do a DDOS attack against a forum like this one.

I didn’t even look at ips. I was busy yesterday and again today so I just got it stopped. no diagnostics.

I’ll turn on registration again in a day or two when I can keep an eye on things.

Thank you for your service.

Is it possible to turn registration on, but require someone to manually approve a registration before they can post?

Alternatively, is it possible to turn on moderation so that any new user has to have their first few posts checked to make sure they’re okay before those posts appear, and after sufficient proof they’re not a bot or otherwise a POS they can freely post?

Im sure one of those two things. Ill do some digging tomorrow or tuesday.

Any update? It is Tuesday today, unless you meant you will update us at any Tuesday in the future.

So I didn’t dive into what the were doing, but registrations seem normal. So I’ve turned registration back on and things should be back to where they were.
