So uh, do you guys think Putin will invade Ukraine or what

Its bizarre how little Trump and his cronies understand Ukrainians.

They will absolutely dig in now. And their resolve will harden against Trump.

I hope the other countries buying fancy weapons systems from the US are taking note that the US might turn it off on you when you need it most.

Germany will be sending Ukraine Taurus cruise missiles now with Merz in power. Scholz was always a refusenik about sending them.

So that could move the needle as Ukraine would be able to use its airforce for deep strikes into Russian territory in order to counter their glide bombs.

I’m glad that Germany is stepping up where the U.S. is falling short. I assume that switching weapons mid-war adds some headaches in terms of training, but is obviously light-years better than being defenseless.

This is on my radar as Canada buys most of its fancy military equipment from the US. We will be greatly upping our defence spending so it begs the question whether it might be safer to buy it from UK or France.

Read Dave Barry’s 2024 year in review before buying anything from Boeing, that’s for sure.

That too.

Macron has made a Presidential address to the country outlining the Russian threat and that the US may not be an ally in this conflict.

I think the US cutting off intelligence to Ukraine was the final straw for Macron. He is going to join Merz in pushing for large scale European re-armament.

He is also considering extending France’s nuclear weapon umbrella over Europe and Ukraine.

Thats a really big deal.

Cannot  this enough. Vive la France!! :fr:

This makes me want to go vacation in Paris to support their economy. But first I need one of those t-shirts that says “Sorry for our President” in about 12 languages.

Canada has a multibillion dollar contract to buy F35s from the US that was negotiated when the US was still our friend and our usual military supplier. If Trump disregards agreements, maybe we should back out of this one for the reasons given in this opinion.

That would be amusing to watch. Trump folds under pressure, like how quick he folded from a bit of pressure from the auto industry. Watching him collapse when the American MiC comes calling after they start losing contracts would be amusing.

Well, of course.

As the defender of democracy, the United States must seek to overthrow the dictator.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is planning to revoke temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict with Russia, a senior Trump official and three sources familiar with the matter said, potentially putting them on a fast-track to deportation.

The move, expected as soon as April, would be a stunning reversal of the welcome Ukrainians received under President Joe Biden’s administration.

The planned rollback of protections for Ukrainians was underway before Trump publicly feuded with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy last week. It is part of a broader Trump administration effort to strip legal status from more than 1.8 million migrants allowed to enter the U.S. under temporary humanitarian parole programs launched under the Biden administration, the sources said.

Meanwhile Canada has extended the Ukrainians’ temporary legal status here.

Well, he’s gonna need them for the official fascist dictatorship.

Although the Canadian economy is small compared to the US, it has a lot of cards it can play if the tariff war drags on. This would be a last resort but I wouldn’t take it off the table. Buying military equipment from the Swedes rather than from the US would drive Trump crazy but the Swedish purchase has many advantages for Canada.
