I’m not sure the 1/3rd fault finding will stand. I AM sure the amount of damages will not survive appeal.
I’m confident that after a nice contribution to Dear Leader’s PAC, Tesla’s worries in this matter will go away.
Detail not mentioned on NBC-- the driver had his foot on the accelerator, preventing the AP from braking.
It looks like the case rests on whether “autopilot” is an inappropriate term.
If the acceleration is wired (and it probably is), that should be overridable by the engineers driving the car, I mean, building the car so it can drive itself.
Yeah, I assume they intentionally made it so the human would have some kind of final say…
Should probably add we’re talking about autopilot, not “full self driving”, which costs extra money and drives itself*.
*Not really
Here is an article (from a slightly negative on Tesla, big hate on Elon site) that focuses on the data treatment by Tesla.
This kind of behavior is a big reason I don’t trust Tesla to implement self-driving cars.
I want to believe that sequence of events has something to do with the $240 million judgement.
Lotsa typos in the article.
Looks as if were speech to text and light editing only. Unlike our erudite posts.
The plaintiffs hired Alan Moore, a mechanical engineer who specializes in accident reconstruction, to forensically recover data from the Autopilot ECU (computer).
Thank goodness for Alan Moore.
I’ve always liked Fred Lambert’s articles. He’s written about clean energy, EVs, and especially Tesla since forever. Including many articles covering his own experience with AP and FSD. He’s always been more than fair, but ultimately his dislike of Musk and Tesla is really well earned.
Yup, all hi klass and !!!
I had my first Waymo fail today. Called an Uber, got a notification that Waymo was nearby and accepted. It was showing 1-2 minutes away.
Waymo asks you to select a nearby pickup location, typically offering multiple spots in the immediate vicinity of your location. It did that again. However, every time I picked one it gave a processing message and then asked me to pick another location. I tried many times (15 ish?) including all of the adjacent locations, and it kept asking me to reselect. I am not certain if it was the app, vehicle, or some communication between the 2 but it wasn’t happening. I had to contact human support.
Support got me out of that loop and sent me a new human driver. Several minutes later, the Waymo showed up in 2 of the pickup locations it offered and stopped in the street with hazards flashing. This was bad, as traffic was already snarled and it blocked a lane on a 2 lane street exacerbating congestion.
