Feeling very sad today.

Annoyed at the stupid people causing drama for my.kid, sad i can’t do anything about it. Suppose i’m glad she hasn’t yet staged a kidnapping…
My son was bullied in line at a water park yesterday, to the point of tears. He doesn’t want to talk about it, so I don’t know what was said. Part of growing up, sure, but it sucks.
Grrr… boy thst triggers me… must search for constructive, non-felonious methods to deal… I hope you can find a way to discuss ways your son can handle future events without making him suffer the past too much.
What do people do/say about bullying these days?
Oy! I like to take a page from Roy Kent’s book.
But in seriousness, we are trying to teach our kids to stand up for themselves, get adults involved sooner than later…our school has a no tolerance policy for violence, as most do, so fighting back would get both kids suspended. And my kids aren’t the fight back kind of kids anyway.
Although when his older brother found out about it (in the car on the way home) he was saying he wanted to go back and beat the kid up. Big words for a pacifist, and easy to say when you have no ability to act on it, but he seemed pretty perturbed by the whole thing. I’m glad he’s upset that someone is picking on his brother, but hope he wouldn’t feel the need to get involved physically.
I mostly enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia, but the last chapter of The Silver Chair really hasn’t aged well.
Back in the 80’s my brother was getting bullied at school. Coming home with bruises. He was tiny for his age. I was a large farm boy, one of the bigger guys in school.
I went up to the kid that was bullying him, asked him his name. He replied. I grabbed him and put him up against the lockers in front of his friends and told him the next time he hit my brother I’d me coming to see him. That ended the problem.
I was also bullied a lot. One very large man, not even a student used to bully me when I was at the arcade. I just wanted to play space invaders. Finally I just said, if you want to fight, let’s go. Took him behind the arcade, and beat him hard in front of half the town. Cops showed up, I ended up in court lol. But…a few weeks later another idiot that had been bullying me brings this event up and offers to have at it with me. I said ok, let’s go. He declined and never bothered me again.
Both are bad examples, but the stopped the problem. Different times, and different place. Back home adults still get drunk and fight. Someone wanted to fight my brother in law who’s 65, last weekend at a party back home. My bil just said, I can’t fight, so I’m not going to fight you. Then he said, plus, I’m late and my wife (my sister) is here now and she’s going to beat me for being late, so you don’t have to. And that’s why I don’t live in that area anymore. Who the hell as an adult bullies people and wants to fight? It’s absurd.
The wife’s brothers employed that method.
Well that was probably 45 years ago or so, in a very rural area, and I was a kid. Today I’d just laugh at a bully.
SL, in the slammer, talking to the local sheriff:
“Well, it got so that every piss-ant prairie punk who thought he could fight would ride into town to try out the SL Kid. I must have beat up more men than Cecil B. DeMille. It got pretty gritty. I started to hear the words ‘put em up’ in my sleep. Then one day, I was just walking down the street when I heard a voice behind me say, ‘Put em up, Mister!’ I spun around, and there I was, face to face with a six-year old kid. Well, I just dropped my fists down and walked away. Little bastard kicked me in the ass. So I limped to the nearest saloon, crawled inside a whiskey bottle… and I’ve been there ever since.”
Lol. No slammer for me but I did end up in court and no, I didn’t get off the charges. Missed the first day of grade 11 to see the local judge.
Lawyer said probably it was because the other guy had been in and out of jail and they were looking to keep racking up the convictions until they could put him away for good.
I suppose this sounds like I was a rough kid. But for the conditions, I really wasn’t. And the moment I was able to leave, I did so and never looked back.
RNN, i think.
Others got it, though.
I took my neighbour and his cat to a nearby vet. Chopper will now be a one-eyed cat. ![]()
My brother broke up with his girlfriend today. She was so out of his league, wonderful woman, kind, personable…much lovelier than his ex wife. I respect his decision and know that he has to do what he has to do, for reasons I don’t have knowledge of, but I will miss her.
