Robinhood 3% IRA Match

I’m feeling better about not having the credit card. Seems like most of the CC issuers are getting a little chincy with reward offerings.

If you want to have the rewards auto-redeem into a statement credit they ding you, but in literally 30 seconds you can select the “cash back” option and transfer it into your brokerage account instantly.

That’s like Citibank’s Double cash card. It’s 1% cash back as you charge and 1% cash back as you pay. But if you take a reward as a statement credit that does not count as a payment, so you only get the 1% reward on those dollars. You can get the full 2% if you transfer rewards to a checking account.

That was my go to card for I’m guessing a decade. Not getting rid of it, it’s probably propping up my credit score as my longest account.

Are you ever going to use your credit again?

I’ve thought about this - I suppose I might if I ever buy a different house and rates are below 4%, but will likely pay cash for my next car and just about anything else after that.

You mean credit score? Not so much. I did finance my Tesla because the interest rate was sub 2% and have no recollection if I had to qualify. If I were to ever sell my house and downsize, I might not have all the cash in the interim until I have the proceeds from the house sale, don’t know about that. That’s all I can imagine. And I would be able to buy the car outright.

I feel like I always want to keep options open. YMMV.

I have a hard time understanding how property taxes are categorically similar to gambling.

Don’t forget that credit is used for things beyond just lending.

Back when I was working with credit scoring for personal lines insurance, age of oldest tradeline was a very useful variable.

Sure, you don’t want to trash your score, but I am also thinking - we are all well over 800 and a 20 point drop won’t matter for that either.

New cards from Revolut are similar. Here is my Ultra Card from Revolut.

I got two credit cards this year for miles. Completely trashed my credit score. All the way down to … 796.

I’m not worthy to join these conversations anymore

796 is fine. As someone who was at 660 a few years ago I have a very dim view of anything below 720.

Hey! Who let this guy in here? The 796 comment was 100% tongue in cheek of course.
