RIP thread

I figured I’d be way in the minority, I’ve never seen Dirty Dancing either. Interesting.

I am a bit of a RnR music nut, so I’ve seen it several times. I’m not in the target demographic. Neither was my mom, who also loved it. No, she never visited the Catskills when she was younger. She was in her 20’s when the period of the movie occurred, so she knew the music.

Then they couldn’t put the finger on the Schumachers!

Random trivia: Dr Ruth was a friend of someone… I think the screenwriter. She had been pegged to play Mrs. Schumacher, but when she found out her character was a thief she backed out.

I watched Dirty Dancing years after it came out. Don’t remember much except saying, " hey, that’s Detective Lennie Briscoe" .

My sister was the right age. I think I’ve seen parts of it many times, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever wanted it from beginning to end.

I had seen Saturday Night Fever and Flashdance by the time Dirty Dancing came out so already had seen my fill of dance movies. Just not my genre.

So you passed on La La Land?

And I can see the music angle. Have watched American Graffiti several times primarily because of the soundtrack.

There were so many great American music artists in the late ‘50s doing R&R, doo wop, R&B, etc. Some continued into the ‘60s when they were overshadowed by the British Invasion. However the Brits were highly influenced by the earlier American artists.

I confess I watched La La Land because I and my wife get a kick out of Ryan :canada: Gosling. We watched Barbie primarily because of his performance.

Flashdance and Footloose had both come out when I was in HS, so by the time Dirty Dancing came out, I felt much the same as you.

personally, i felt it was because Oprah started dominating the ratings

Seems like an outstanding “out-of-context” post . . .

I think that is on Baby’s mind during the whole movie.

Well it does have great music. Not just Stay, but that is certainly a great song.

I would say that they were very much pushing the boundaries of the PG-13 rating, but it’s not porn or anything.

He was the manager of the England national team in the late 90s.

3 quarter finals in major tournaments is an excellent achievement. Not quite to the Southgate level but he produced teams that gave hope to go deep.
