He was only 78? Seemed much older to me.
Bob Newhart, Who Brought Understated Comic Style to TV Sitcoms, Dies at 94
His halting speech was part of his brand, which ushered in an era of blockbuster shows like ‘Roseanne’ and ‘Seinfeld’
The actress wife of a retired actuary friend/coworker played a part on Newhart.
Lou Dobbs, loves me.He voted for me. He was going to vote for me twice this time, still might. I’ll miss Lou Dobb’s vote.
Loved his dry humour. RIP Bob Newhart
RIP. That guy was hilarious.
+1
Mrs. VA and I listened to a CD of his “stand-up” material that he put together sometime in early 2000 (IIRC) where he discussed some of the sources for his routines (namely, most originated from something he experienced in real life).
Enjoyed him in everything he did. One of the few comedians to avoid scandals; have clean, family-friendly (generally) routines; and had two successful TV series.
RIP Professor Proton
My dad had on LP of some of his old comedy routines. His call from Abner Doubleday to the “Olympic Games” to pitch the game of baseball is priceless!
He had so many memorable skits. My favourite was the telephone conversation with Sir Walter Raleigh about tobacco.
He did Conan’s podcast a few years ago, and no one on the show could stop laughing.
His timing was impeccable, along with his dry wit.
The thing with a lot of his acts is that they are just as good as a “radio broadcast” as they are on TV.
Just watched this on my binge-watch!
RIP Duke Fakir, last surviving member of the Motown group, The Four Tops. These guys were so polished.
RIP Lewis Lapham.
Brilliant journalist and political observer. Subscribed to his excellent Harper’s magazine for many years in the old days.
i used to subscribe and enjoyed his writing. RIP
