The NBC article didn’t mention it but Jimmy Buffet had Canadian ancestry (sorry about that). This CTV article talks about his Newfoundland and Nova Scotia family.

I think Newfoundlanders are cool: I wouldn’t say the same about folks in Appalachia! My wife and I spent a few weeks on The Rock a few years ago and met so many friendly, interesting characters. They have so much joie de vivre.
Wish more Americans would visit Newfoundland to see how different the inhabitants are from the stereotypical image of Canadians. We have our regional differences just like the Americans do.
Many of us got a good glimpse into Newfoundlanders from the hit musical Come From Away. They certainly were a welcoming group.
