The Mississippi GOP wanted to ditch the state income tax gradually over time. The Senate’s plan would allow a gradual reduction in the income tax to 3% from 4% until 2030, when the triggers would require that state revenue growth outpaces state spending. That threshold for growth was supposed to be 85%, but the bill has a typo that says .85%.
Despite that important typo (and some others), the Senate passed it anyway. The House quickly followed suit, and the Governor says he’ll sign it
Reminds me of a time back in the day some GA self insured funds rammed through a measure intended to let them cut reserves. The language was so flawed it made them all technically insolvent instead. It did pass and get signed into law as well.
