Fuck, everyone likes pizza. Except gluten-sensitive or lactose-intolerant, and really shitty pizza can be created for them.
Better than smelling like McDonald’s.
I’m not even sure that pizza would be considered entirely Italian anymore. It’s kind of a U.S. thing now. I’ve heard of a few pizza variants recently that are associated with U.S. cities rather than Italian ones. I think Chicago deep dish pizza is widely known. I believe there’s a NYC style pizza. On a recent episode of the WTF podcast, I was hearing a bit of discussion about a little known Connecticut style of pizza that’s kind of mediocre. A pizza place recently opened up in my city that serves Detroit style pizza. We have a national chain in Canada called Boston Pizza.

Heresy! (Although New Haven style apizza does suffer the further you get away from New Haven, allegedly because of differences in water quality, but more likely due to the nature of expansion/franchising)
Take it up with Marc Maron and Paul Giamatti. I think they described it as something to the effect of bland, burnt pizza.
However Norway has the US beat in pizza consumed per person.

I’ll concede that not everyone is a fan of the char coming from coal-fired pizza ovens, but tomato pies, at least, have been an exception to my (occasionally criticized) belief that New England cuisine is bland as compared to other regions.

When we went to Norway we wanted to try regional foods but this was difficult in comparison to getting pizza which was everywhere.
We did manage to find a place in Bergen in the end though.
