If you point out racism, that means you’re racist because you are recognizing differences between groups of people.

If that is the definition of “racist,” but it is not the one anyone should use.

Merely pointing out differences is not racist behavior.

I don’t know that it’s the majority, but I have definitely been told I’m the racist one for pointing out systemic inequality and disparate outcomes. “You’re the one saying Black people aren’t smart enough to get into a good college without affirmative action!” for example.

Granted, the people saying this aren’t, well, intelligent.

I think the point is that the boy in Old Yeller hated to do it, even though he knew someone had to (and so he did it), but Noem would not hate to.

I still haven’t seen it but I feel like I know the plot so there’s not much point. It would be hugely upsetting to Mini Me who really loves animals but maybe someday I’ll watch it with her. What’s a good age for a kid to watch Old Yeller for the first time?

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) pregamed for Mother’s Day by introducing a bill this week to create a federal database storing information on pregnant people.

Critics took note when Britt, who in March was mocked for her response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, on Thursday released a “super cringe” video about her new legislation, which includes a number of anti-abortion measures.

“As a mom I know that there is no greater blessing in this life than our children. And I also understand the types of challenges that women face during their pregnancy journeys and while raising their kids,” said Britt, who smiled in the video while talking up the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act, or MOMS Act.

“To all of my fellow moms out there, my goal is to give you and your children the opportunities to thrive and to live your American dreams,” she said, adding that she seeks to “advance a comprehensive culture of life.”

Britt portrayed the MOMS Act as providing “critical support to women,” but neglected to mention that the legislation would create a Pregnancy.gov federal clearinghouse featuring “resources” about anti-abortion centers, often known as “crisis pregnancy centers.”

The website would include information on adoption agencies but not on abortion clinics, Axios reported, and the bill would give grants to anti-abortion nonprofits as well.

I was going to post this, but after I took a look at some of the details… it’s calling for a database of (anti-abortion only) resources, but not the mandatory registry of pregnant women as some of the reactions imply.

I don’t doubt that it could be abused and morphed into something suitable for Gilead, but it is probably unfair to characterize the measure as something that (immediately, at least) creates a theocratic dystopia.
