Quit looking for perfection. Throw shit at the wall, see what sticks. Which, again, would be leaps and bounds better than what the Democrats are currently doing, which is nothing.
Taking credit is a losing strategy. Moral panic is a winning strategy. COLA is great, but Republicans are going to cut benefits by a third in the next few years if you vote for them.
I think we are mostly saying the same thing.
Accomplishments mean nothing, the records means nothing. The only thing that matters now with enough of the voters is the scary thing that happens if you vote for the other side.
Reality, also does not matter.
I think the simple answer is that Democrats don’t vote in off-years nearly as much as Republicans do. It takes a much greater effort by Dems to win these.
How did the Virginia House go?
Latest I saw is Republicans will have a 52-48 lead after it was looking like a possible 50-50 last night.
Democratic turnout was up from 4 years ago. Republican turnout was up by more.
I caught the kevin mccarthy victory lap news conference and he mentioned education like 5 times in the first 5 min. Rs clearly see this as the message to take back the suburbs.
The trick in VA was distancing yourself from Trump in the burbs and focus on CRT (whatever they think that is). Then going back to the rural areas and using trump talking points to rev up the base… but dont actually invite trump to the party.
as an R that does NOT want to see trump run in 24, I really hope Rs see the writing on the wall- Most people dont like trump, but we can recycle most of his messaging to rally the base.
We are not turning votes from D to R here. We are just taking away the D reasons for voting by removing trump from the equation, but keeping the R reasons for voting by using all of his message.
also helps the minority when things are going bad in general. Very easy to point to the party in power and say its their crisis.
We are largely saying the same thing, but I would disagree that accomplishments mean nothing.
If you have accomplishments and the other side says “they’ve done nothing” you can point to your accomplishments and call the other side a bunch of liars. The die-hards won’t care, the rest will pay attention and cast skepticism on whatever else the other side says. [Discussion on how accomplishments need to have personal impact held for another time.]
If you have no accomplishments and the other side says “they’ve done nothing” you’re fucked, because you have no response to negate it.
NBC News poll from Sunday:
Country headed in the right direction: 22%
Wrong track: 71%
Biden job performance:
Approve: 42%
Disapprove: 54%
Generic Dem image: -15
Generic Rep image: -8
Biden economic approval: 40% approve 57% disapprove
Better on economy: R+18
Better on inflation: R+24
The only president to ever be this bad at job approval at this point in their presidency was Trump. But Biden started at a much higher level than Trump ever did, so a bigger fall.
so… its the economy, stupid?
I mean Fauci came out in late September and said something about holiday gatherings not being safe in 2021. This was a month after college football and NFL resumed to absolutely packed stadiums. That message is so far detached from reality that it just looks like everyone in Washington is clueless.
Also, where is Biden? He should be selling the heck out of this legislation. He is largely just hiding away doing nothing. Joe Manchin is the most visible Dem by a long shot and he is basically campaigning for Republican ideas right now.
So, be Trump, but pretend you aren’t Trump.
Yeah, this country is going full fascism under Fuhrer Josh Hawley in 2024. Ugh.
Is this the comment where he indicated “something about holiday gatherings not being safe”.
But a lot of the D conversations in the last Pres election was focused on Trump accomplishing nothing (of value to them).
My criticism of the Ds messaging: they talk to much. Way too much. e.g. this hypothetical.
R: my opponent will let our children be inundated n CRT.
D: Critical race theory is not an element of a K-8 curriculum. We believe our children should learn history based as factually accurate as possible. Only by carefully understanding our history can we move forward…WRONG RESPONSE
correct response: I am against teaching CRT to third graders just as much as anyone. It’s crazy talk.
If this pisses off some extremists, so be it. Keep your message short and forceful. Forget the nuance. Think clickbait.
Some of us here have argued that help with childcare could get a lot of people to work on top of paying others to work providing child care. Why aren’t Democrats talking about that? Seems the perfect time to sell policies that help people get out of their house and go to work. I would be selling the eff out of that part of the legislation.
I really don’t see selling a policy being a winning strategy when your opponent is scaring voters away from you on a fake issue. The fear will always turn out more votes.
Dems don’t know how to play dirty.
That’s their main issue.
Insult, slander, indefinite lawsuits. That’s the American way. And the last presidency proves that it’s what Americans like and want.
Sure, it’ll drive away some older independents. But the future wants extreme measures.
Eh, let’s not forget that he was a one-term President, which is pretty unusual, who many in his own party openly didn’t support.
Let’s also not diminish the support he was able to garner, not in spite of his rhetoric and behavior, but because of it. Before and after the 2016 election.
