It took about 3/4 of a day for a two-man crew to cut down the tree.

Last August, part of the tree fell on our house (some damage), and they had a crew of about 6 guys working on it.

TIL that summer in Australia is NOT June to September.

I knew it was cold during those months but I thought seasons were global, not relative.

Yeah, tried that once, never again.

So did my kindergarten teacher. I got in trouble in kindergarten for correcting her when she said that. I forget whether we were talking about Australia or the South Pole.

I wonder how JAS is doing. Remember when he moved his family to Brazil because covid wouldn’t be a problem there?

(Yeah, I know they went back to Europe/UK)

I remember when he didn’t know Canada was in North America. That was good times.

My son’s kindergarten teacher told him a rectangle was not a polygon. I jumped on the zoom call and fought her on it. Well, I wanted to. I just told him she was wrong. It’s not a regular polygon, but it is a polygon.

I liked the time when he gloated his nobility-level wealth amounted to ~10-15m in expected inheritance across multiple family members, including his spouse’s family

I have used Zenni for years - an incredible discount compared to store-bought glasses. It can take a little bit of getting used to. The first pair I ever ordered wasn’t quite as long as I would have liked, but all the measurements are there on the website so I fixed that the next time I ordered. Even with a basic lens and the nicest coatings, I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $60. And since I like having (1) regular glasses, (2) computer glasses for home, and (3) computer glasses at work, it’s easy on the HSA.

At that price you can afford to mess up your order a few times and still come out ahead!

I think he was planning on hitting Ibiza just as the AO faded away.

Yep. I scratched my $500 pair, spent $500 on a new pair. 2 weeks later my dog chewed them to pieces, the optometrist got me a new pair for $300. What a waste of money.
Got three pairs from zennie for about $150. One pair for everday, spare pair in the truck, and a pair of sunglasses I keep in the truck. At that price, glasses are almost disposable.
Now, I found the quality on the $50 pair a bit less than the $500 pair. But not $450 better.

So that means Christmas in Australia is in June when it’s cold?

Sn11 is now on the launchpad.

If I were sn11, I would be nervous.

This time for sure!

This time of year we have conference calls with clients. I haven’t met any of them in person and didn’t know what they looked like, aside from their LinkedIn photos which are usually 10 years old. With Zoom meetings I’ve finally seen what they really look like, aside from one who kept her camera off. Finally this week I got to see her face, so now I’ve completed the set.

Did you ask her to point her camera at her shoes??? If not, you lost that deal!!!

I was on a zoom with our co-op student on Monday morning. We’re both having our coffee. Turns out she has the identical coffee mug to mine. What a weird thing to find out in a zoom call.

Today I wrote my first check since 11/15/2020.
The last time I got cash from an ATM was 11/16/2020.
Now that I buy my lottery tickets via the GoA lottery group I don’t even need cash for that.
Vending machines have been all-electronic for quite some time now.
I’ve removed all cash from my ā€œwalletā€ (which is actually my phone-case)…ope…nope…wait…I actually have a saw buck in there.
It was a gradual move away from cash for quite a while, but in the last year or two it’s been drastic. Perhaps, the pandemic has played a role, since I don’t go out anywhere special, so I don’t happen upon any cash-only purchase opportunities.

I typically have cash on hand for a variety of reasons (all legal). I hadn’t owned a check book in almost ten years, but since moving to KS many contractors prefer check to credit card, some don’t even accept the latter. Previously, when I needed a check, there was a way to get US Bank to print and mail one for free, so I just did that once a year when I needed a check. But in the last six months, I’ve written about 20 checks.

Yeah, a contractor that did a quick fix on my house wanted cash only.
The piano tuner would have accepted credit card, but I asked him if he’d prefer a check and he requested that (to save on fees).
