Is Echo supposed to walk herself??? Might be time for a saaaaad pupperz story…
I did. It may depend how strong your regular prescription is how annoying it is.
But i found the “sweet spot” where i can actually focus is small, and as i move my head everything moved in weird ways. I got headaches.
I eventually discovered “digital progressives” (they go by a variety of names) that have a larger sweet spot and more important, don’t have that weird funhouse effect when i move my head, and I’m a fan. But until i did, i was juggling three pairs of glasses. Progressives for work, single-vision distance glasses for driving and watching movies, and bifocals for conferences and reunions and other events where i wanted peripheral vision (to recognize people) but still had to see close up (to eat or write.)
Many people love ordinary progressives, though.
Crap, I foresee hating them then and wanting to buy a 2nd pair without the progressives. They come in this coming Thursday.
The only reason I went for new glasses was because I stepped on the current ones and broke them. For seeing distance my prescription has not changed at all. Not sure if my vision for close up actually changed or this place just decided I needed progressives. Last I got my vision checked a few years ago was at a different place and they said my close up vision was starting to go, but I could probably put off getting glasses for that. It isnt amazing but I had managed without progressives
got the glasses early. they seem fine. not sure i even notice the progressive feature. i should probably try and read something with small font some more. otherwise seems same as my other glasses.
edit - just made it a point to try the progressive feature. it’s meh. you gotta look down at a specific part of the glasses. my vision for close up isn’t that bad with the regular lenses i have for distance, so i can still sort of see that way, so might just do it wrong. once my vision gets worse for reading, i could see reading glasses being far preferable to this. it’s not that bad at this point though and the feature doesn’t bother my eyes so far. i envision just taking the glasses off to read in my future just like the regular ones.
they are too tight on my head. after wearing them for a day, the side of my head hurts. I need to get these adjusted when they are open again tomorrow!
I tried progressive lenses but didn’t care for them.
Maybe I’m old school.
I like having the traditional bifocals, plus a separate pair of computer glasses that I probably wear a greater % of the time in order to focus 2-3 feet ahead of me which neither of my bifocals does well.
the progressive feature seems very minor to me. i have to make it a point to even use it, and can mostly see without it. my prescription for reading is only +1.25, so that might be why. not sure i totally need it. it is also really expensive. they said i needed a more expensive kind that my plan doesn’t totally cover because my vision for distance is so massively different between my two eyes. the adjustment for reading for both is the same though at +1.25. confusing.
just got my glasses adjusted to be less tight. hopefully okay now, otherwise i’ll be back there again tomorrow.
i’m not sure i’m really at the point to need reading glasses, but my corrective vision for distance makes it harder to see close up due to my eyes doing something weird and old people like. i can mostly take the glasses off entirely and achieve a similar goal.
no clue what bifocals are like compared to this.
walking there i realized i really need prescription sunglasses. the sun was all in my face. probably gonna look for a cheaper place for that though, and do without progressive lenses. don’t think my insurance gives a discount on a 2nd pair, and this place was super expensive even with the insurance discount. i like this place a lot though.
they had suggested the kind of lenses that turn into sunglasses when you’re outside. last i got those, i hated them. they took forever to turn back to normal glasses. they claim they have better than what i likely had then, but i still turned it down cause i was unsure.
I’m right there with you. Transition lenses are awful. I haven’t had them in 5 years or more, but I still wouldn’t get them again.

When I was in 1st and/or 2nd grade the principal’s name was Mr. Deiner.
Prescription sunglasses are well worth the money to me. Shop around online to price some options. You can often go pretty cheap depending on what features you need in your lenses.
I don’t care for the ones that darken outdoors and lighten indoors. They don’t do either quite as well as their stand alone counterparts. They also tend not to darken much if you are driving, when it’s nice to have a good pair of shades.
thanks. ugh, I see it asks for pupillary distance. that’s not on the prescription i requested from the optician. guess i need to go back a 3rd time for them to add that.
wait, no, 5th time. also went back to question my bill, and to pick up the glasses.
I got single vision prescription shades. Well worth it!!! ![]()
Whenever I get a prescription filled now, I always ask for PD too. That way if I ever want to order another set of frames I have what I need
i don’t understand why they would leave that out in the first place!
I hate transitions. They don’t work in the car, where I use them most. And they do take forever to transition back to clear.
I have a few pairs of rx sunglasses and they are very worth it. I keep a pair in the car, a pair at the office (RIP), a pair in my work bag, and a pair in my purse.
Maybe all those GoA badges swelled your head ![]()
My older pairs of rx sunglasses get used as spares too. I keep the oldest ones in the car in case I forget my others.
