Yes, it’s very different in the US afaik. Worker protection is minimal or non-existent here.
That said, some states ban them, some have limitations (can’t apply to low paying jobs, for instance) and pretty much all have some “reasonableness” limitation. But as in the UK, going to court is too costly in general for reasonableness to help. Also, some companies similarly want to avoid the issue of lawsuits and won’t hire you even if you have an “uninforcable” non-compete.
Years ago, Jimmy John’s had a non-compete for its entry-level employees:
“According to the company’s agreement, a worker is prohibited from taking a job at a competing sandwich shop for a period of two years following employment at Jimmy John’s. A “competitor” is any business that derives 10 percent or more of its revenue from the sale of sandwiches, and that resides within 3 miles of a Jimmy John’s location. That means, in effect, that a worker would have to wait for two years before going to work, for instance, at Subway – quite a harsh consequence for these base-level employees.”
People sues and they no longer have such a setup.
can you work at Nathan’s or Taco Bell?
seriously, 10% could wipe out any food service, but fine dining
Yes. This is really my primary motivator at this point. We have quite a lot going on in the home front as well (wifes parents are not well) , so would be good to get more family time over the next year or so.
I think there are a lot of benefits to a mid-career break. Especially while your daughter is still young and your body is still in good shape.
I took one when I turned 50. Highly recommend it.
My middle daughter (age 43) and SIL are on one now.
Not sure if hot dogs or tacos qualify as a sandwich.
that in itself is a debate
In your personal opinion, how many gummy bears comprise a single serving?
I just got a little packet of gummy bears. It had 4 gummy bears in a packet. WTH is that supposed to be?
I’ve picked more gummies out of my teeth after attacking a sloth of gummy bears. {yes, sloth or sleuth is the proper term for a group of bears} Too bad they don’t make gummy crows. I could murder a murder of gummy crows.
For bears, I think 50, minimum. 4? Forgettabouttit
According to my big Haribo bag, 13 bears. I don’t know WTH they’re thinking with the 4 bear bags.
How many are there?
I can imagine Haribo dealers in a strategy session, “We’ll give them a little taste; get 'em hooked…”
My Sam’s Club has Lucky Jeans for $25 rn. I should go get a pair or two
Just wash them separately!
