Yes. I can’t be certain i learned it after moving to the south from the midwest, but it seems very likely. I can hear in my mind the guy i first remember saying “fittin’ ta” saying “stove up”
Perhaps she was a student at Purdue University before the industrial revolution?
CHEFULATORRRRS!!! Stove up!
i learned it as a noun with respect to makers mark 46
I’m throwing a baby shower on Sunday, and the MTB wants a trivia game.
I have the following categories:
- Baby Facts
- Babies in History
- Celebrity Babies
- Babies in TV/Film
- Babies in Music
I have the baby facts covered, and celebrity babies will be a bunch of matching up weird baby names to their parents, but I’m a little short on History, Film, and Music. Any halfway interesting baby trivia to recommend?
Find a source for how many calories on average to bring a baby to term, closest guess wins.
Romulus and Remus, suckled by a wolf (not an approved breastmilk donor today), who was older?
Babies in TV/Film category, perhaps have some questions about movie titles involving a baby (list to come later), stars of such movies, name of the baby in question, etc.
As for “Babies in Music” . . . perhaps have lines from several lullabies that have to be completed . . . and for History, pull up some “old” lullabies . . .
Alternative for “Babies in Music” - pick songs with “Baby” in the title, they need to name the artist (you can cover many ages and genres with this one). Depending on the set-up, you can actually play the song to help them out.
I’m just wondering what the reaction to “Baby Got Back” will be… guess it’ll depend on the crowd.
If you want to put a little effort into it, you could do 5 sec snips of songs with baby, and have them name song and artist after 2nd play thru.
Babies in TV/film:
Inspired by a number of posts recently talking about this movie, what movie features the quote “Nobody puts Baby in a corner”?
Dirty Dancing
In the movie Baby Driver, what actor won the Golden Globe for best actor for playing Baby?
Ansel Elgort
fwiw, i believe Humprey Bogarts mother was the artist of the Gerber Baby.
i can think of a ton of child actors, but very few who were baby actors. Wayne, the brother on the original Wonder Years was the baby, Uncle Joey? in Back to the Future. Cartoons give more options, Monsters Inc, Incredibles, Boss Baby…
movies with actual babies, Babys Day Out, Three Men And A Baby, Look Who’s Talking, Baby Boom, Honey I Blew Up The Kids, Willow
Ton of songs and film with baby in title
Pregnancy films, Bridget Jones, Juno, Knocked Up, Junior, Nine Months
I always think constipated, but not sure if that’s correct.
I would have said stove up means feeling physically broken down by age/injury
You’ve gotten some good suggestions for babies in film.
On TV: Both Phoebe and Rachel on Friends. (Ross’s ex-wife Carol too, for that matter)
Miranda on Sex And The City
Jamie on Mad About You
Daphne on Frasier
Most of the women on This Is Us
The triplets on Friends were actually played by quadruplets.
Something about Phoebe’s line “they’re not my babies” would be funny… that might be my favorite Phoebe moment from the whole series. (Phoebe was a surrogate for her brother and sister-in-law, carrying triplets. She asks someone to stop smoking around her because she’s pregnant and the smoke isn’t good for the babies she’s carrying. The smoker says something snarky along the lines of maybe she and her babies should go somewhere else to which she rolls her eyes and says “they’re not my babies”.)
Ok… if you put something in number order, it’s numerical. If you put something in letter order, it’s alphabetical. What about when you order something by rainbow color? It’s a thing. There needs to be a word.
ROYGBIVical?
I mean, I prefer rainbowlogical
Trivia question that’s not too hard: who is the only main character on How I Met Your Mother to NOT have any children?
Robin
I mean, technically, she has step-children.
No, the only person she married was Barney and they were divorced by the time his daughter was born. It’s obviously implied that she and Ted are going to start dating again at the end of the series, but that may or may not result in marriage and stepchildren. They’re certainly not married when the series ends.
