Actually, let’s just outlaw tipping.

I’m partial to raising the cap on earnings subject to that last 15% bend point from $170k to like $250k then just increasing it by $25k a year until we hit $400k then indexing it to whatever they were before

This way the people shouldering the increased tax burden get a “meaningful” benefit in retirement

Outlaw the giving of money from person to another?
I think people can simply boycott establishments that “require” customers to pay the employees. And make a stink about it online and letters to the editor until it becomes a national movement.
I’m doing my part, with this post, and not adding a tip before receiving food and then not returning, ever, maybe sending a strongly worded letter…

the no tax on tipping is stupid. just raise everyone’s standard deduction to whatever level. income is income.

Well at present tip income is fully taxable, same as any other income. I think you didn’t used to pay Medicare on tips (vaguely remember this from my days as a waitress) but now you do.

I think I’m still waiting on some forms to come in anyway, or if they’re all available I haven’t gotten around to addressing them. Perhaps I should run things through TurboTax or similar and see where that gets me.

I saw a post on Reddit the other day about a guy who ran 4 popular prep services and got 4 different refunds.

My initial run of turbo tax was annoyingly buggy. Wouldn’t recognize dependants, wouldn’t file the energy tax credit. I think the entry tax credit is wrong (i think i should be capped at $600x2, but it gave me 1950… hopefully the worksheet details this later).

I rebooted, updated, clicked through some screens, and i think it might be reasonable. I was expecting a small amount owed and i think I’ll get there when by brokerage accounts show up online in 3 weeks.

Filed the federal. Can’t file the state as TT says the forms for this year have not been finalized yet. So I have to wait for that $232.

I started with TT but I’m already annoyed with the bait and switch. I have a small oil well royalty and TT is telling me that I need to use the $99 version. Still waiting for several forms so It’s highly unlikely I can beat the TT free filing deadline. I’ve filed for free the last couple years with Credit Karma Tax but it seems clear to me that Intuit (they bought Credit Karma a couple years ago) is intent on making that at least inconvenient. I don’t mind spending a little bit but $99 plus probably a state fee rubs me the wrong way when I’m doing the work anyway.

$0 federal, $15 state

That said, my taxes are simple and I can’t vouch for them with royalties, etc. I don’t know how expensive it can get but it’s cheaper than the competition for most people.

I agree TT is terrible about upcharges for anything that isn’t so simple you can do it yourself. Total bs. Mrs G inherited a tiny fraction of a well, something like $10 every 4 years in royalties. We should give it to a kid with self employment income just to consolidate tax headaches.

I saw a guy driving a Mercedes E class delivering Domino’s pizza. I can’t imagine that’s a good net return per hour.

Similar to my Amazon delivery that came via Maserati.

Teenager borrowing Dad’s car?

Definitely not a teenager. I’d guess 40s, but could have been late 30s.

Yeah that’s unusual. Klaymen does the occasional DoorDash and I presume can also afford a nice car.

Google tells me that Maseratis range from $69,900 to close to $200,000. So low end Maseratis are something middle & upper middle class can afford.

Maserati has an ugly hatchback which is their cheaper model…this was either the Ghibli or Quattroporte, so at least 80k new. I was just getting back from a walk…so I grabbed the package from her, complimented her on her car, and went on with my day.
