This article got me thinking.
There is obvious a political conversation about this but I was more interested in the question of how should a society and what organization within a society should respond to a pandemic? If using your public health experts isn’t the way then what is the best way?
Well, letting unelected officials dictate policy is generally bad, so that’s probably the justification.
However a compromise is, when society is Getting harmed by individuals actions, not to force the individual. Instead, restrict them. Don’t follow conventions? You can’t do stuff then. Choice is yours.
And if they whine ‘i can’t do stuff’ well, tough cookies. You made the choice. Nobody has the right to eat at a restaurant nor ar they guaranteed a job with their specific requirements.
