my FIL parrots anything you hear on Fox News. Last time we visited, Rebecca Goode threatened ICE and Trump was great for capping CC interest rates. Just fox news spin on every story. He is also convinced he is informed.

Though it seems it is available. Apparently one of.our neighbours has it on in their house all day long. geez, even if you like it as a news source, why would anyone have it on all the time. and there’s no good answer to that.
This is the main problem.
We now have a critical mass of people that can be manipulated via AI-assisted campaigns utilising social media and regular MSM channels.
Its much worse now than Iraq/Afghanistan because with the development of AI you can create very effective propaganda compaigns using a very small number of people with the right tools and access.
Also worth mentioning that the people behind these campaigns are also the same people that support mass surveillance of Americans.
It isn’t so much of an AI issue yet…but somewhat related in that you have MSM/FoxNews and the other not very objective new sources that people have latched on to, augmented by the social media bots and actual influencers that we have seen evidence have been propped up by Putin. That can all get hyper scaled though using AI, with more convincing videos as well as other misinformation.
Grok is a somewhat useful tool to address this now in providing the checks against official sources on X. It’s far from perfect, and entirely dependent on how good it is vs the competitors in creating/detecting thins.
It’s going to be a mess. Social media was already an unregulated disaster on democracy. AI will accelerate it. Meanwhile our dinosaurs in Congress seem to be completely unaware of this ticking timebomb and doing nothing to get out ahead of it.
BC got tired of waiting for US states to decide to go to year-round DST so it is happening here next week.

BC had hoped that California, Oregon and Washington state would move to PDT at the same time but after many years of talking about it, BC gave up waiting. The Pacific states seemed willing but possibly such a change requires Federal approval in the US?
Not sure . . . but there are headaches with implementing such things at the state level w/o coordination with adjacent states (which is why a Federal move makes it more “tractible”).
However, many states have a law in place that will automatically recognize such a move if either the appropriate adjacent states implement permanent DST or if it’s approved at the Federal level.
But there are some states (AZ being one of them) that do not observe the time change. While AZ is technically always on MST, this would be the same as being permanent PDT.

I just have never gotten what is stopping the states or the federal government. Any headache of implementation is less than the headache of switching times twice a year.

From what I read, an area (like a state) can request a change of Standard Time zone. DOT then decides via hearings and such whether to grant it.
From what I read, an area cannot simply decide to stay on DST. They can stay on Standard Time or apply DST on the designated days.
So, if a state wants to stay on DST, it needs to change its Standard Time by one zone eastward, then opt to stay on that Standard Time.

Individual states can choose whether they observe year-round standard time or follow the DST rules prescribed by the federal government.
Changes to time zone boundaries are handled by federal regulators. Changes to DST rules are handled by Congress.
The west coast states would require federal action to switch to year-round PDT or MST. They could, however, elect to switch to year-round PST.
(For simplicity, I’m ignoring that little bit of eastern Oregon that’s currently in Mountain Time.)
