In my junk email today: Patriot, I am livid.
Fox News’ #1 Neocon, Mark Levin, called me a “shameless nitwit” on X for opposing a war with Iran, a foreign war that betrays the MAGA promise of NO MORE FOREIGN WARS. Levin even posted threatening language, saying I’m “on his radar” - language that echoes the death threats I receive daily.
It’s sick, it’s disturbing, and it’s exactly why I need you in my corner.
Other Neocons and RINOs are piling on, attacking me by name because I dare to put America First and speak out against a reckless war with Iran that could lead to World War III.
Thankfully, President Trump quickly ended the war with a tremendous effort towards peace, but that will never satisfy Neocons like Mark Levin, who only wants more war and American troops on the ground.
That’s why I’m reaching out with an urgent request.

A big part of the problem was the lack of an early warning system at the local level. Apparently voters dldn’t want to pay for it.

Today I took an English-language tour of the former headquarters of the Stasi, the East German “Ministry for Security” (commonly described as “secret police”, but they weren’t so secret).
Excellent tour guide. Her childhood was in East Germany, before the wall fell, and in addition to giving tours, she’s a historian on staff. I’m glad I booked ahead and got a spot on the tour; I could have listened to her for hours.
At one point during the tour, she engaged with a couple of teens, pointing out how all the information they share on social media could have been used by the Stasi (and probably would have made their jobs easier).
She wrapped up that bit by observing, “today, we don’t have to worry about that, because we live in democracies; tomorrow… things can change just like that”.

Aside: I was planning to go to Kerrville for the Solar Eclipse. But everything was either booked up or one needed to book it for 30 days.

This could probably go in several threads…
One time a few years after I graduated from college, I saw in the births section of the alum magazine an entry with no father listed, just mom. So I wrote to the college president at the time (a Jesuit priest) complaining about whether this should be something a Catholic college celebrates.
His response still inspires me today.
All he said was, whatever the sins of the parents, the children are not to be punished.
I’m not a super fan of the Jesuits in general, but, he wasn’t wrong about that.
