Makes the ongoing trial about the new Texas redistricting map have more urgency. This article is from a couple of weeks ago. A friend of mine who testified last week said that the judges had ruled out a few potential lines that the plaintiff wanted to argue.
Something for Democrats to keep in mind when figuring out what to do in response to Trump: Many Clinton era professional consultants have suggested that they should shift right and try to occupy the center. I think that that’s not a good idea and think instead that they should have a clear message. For a comparison, in the UK, Labour has shifted hard right after winning the 2024 election. It hasn’t done good things for Starmer’s popularity:
This might be better posted in another thread, but I saw this while finishing a break, and I don’t want to take the time to find a better home for it.
I haven’t had a chance to fully form an opinion on this. It’s quite possible that this is a reasonable decision (particularly given the unanimous ruling), but the past few years have fueled cynicism, so…
Not only was it unanimous, but KBJ wrote the decision. My recollection of the case from oral arguments was that the plaintiff had a very clear case and should win.
I can’t read the first word.
Hang
Lol it looked like BANG
Continuing on this theme, Higgins gave an address at the Cambridge Disinformation Summit that I found interesting:
With the military deployed to guard against “insurrection” in California (and maybe Texas?), I wonder if it’s such a good idea for the federal government to be promoting folks who fought for secession.
I’m starting to think we didn’t actually win the Civil War, and the Confederates have just been biding their time, waiting for their chance to take over.

At least they’ll have a disincentive against raising the price?
87 year-old vet spent a night in jail after having been arrested at a protest on the Capitol steps.
His public statement: “I’m just beginning, my friend.”
It occurred to me that we must be coming up on 10 years. I checked, the date was June 16, 2015.
The biggest reaction to his speech was probably the part about
*“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
And, immigration is still at the top of the news. This is one topic where Trump has been consistent.
In some ways, it seems that we’ve always had Trump. In others, I think “has it really been 10 years?”
Maybe there does need to be a “Ways Trump Profits From Presidency” thread.
It would break this discussion board imo.
Money isn’t at all a problem in US politics.
And seriously, how does Cuomo still have financial supporters? Says a lot about the Democratic party that much of it is rallying around him.
According to a report I saw, over 8MM is from Bloomberg, so about a third of the green would be from one guy.
