Does that coincide with TX-86? Maybe that’s why Trump primaried him. ![]()
It would be amusing if the unveiling of the new interstate shields were held in Estelline, TX.
(Might need to scootch ahead a couple of clicks since the URL didn’t come over quite as intended.)
I remember discussing that story on here.
What the Sheriff did was absolutely bonkers
Yay massive corporate tax breaks for companies without many full time employees.
I’ve written local politicians about no tax breaks for data centers. If you want to build one that incorporates energy and water demand without my subsidy, no problem. Be aware that it might not run in the summer as a result.
I read this piece in the NYT. " I’m the C.E.O. of Goldman Sachs. The A.I. Job Apocalypse Is Overblown."
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/05/22/opinion/ai-job-crisis-goldman-sachs.html
I checked the “comments” section. The two most “recommended” comments were very critical of the piece. They each got about 17,000 "recommend"s.
I thought I would read down the list until I found the first person supporting David Solomon. I kept finding negative comments. I gave up when I was so far down that the comments were only getting 17 recommendations.
More data center dealings that shouldn’t be allowed. One of the key state senators who pushed for Meta’s Louisiana data center (and gave them $3.3 billion in tax credits) has made a bunch of money buying property around the site then selling it to the utility company for their new power plant for the data center.

I get almost apoplectic about politicians and tax subsidies for data centres. Sadly, many Canadian politicians, especially in Alberta, are also brainwashed about their benefits.
Quality morals in the UK.
The judge also described the boys as ‘very young’ and said they had limited understanding of consent, while referencing their susceptibility to peer pressure as part of his reasoning.
Pretty sure I knew that gang rape was wrong when I was 14.
This has actually been raised in the UK Parliament.
I would not be surprised if the Minister of Justice gets involved and asks for a new decision (from a different judge).
“Only a lad…”
Crime rates in every major city are well below what they were when I was a kid, so high crime is a political issue in many major cities. Yay progress?
Tim Hortons is pivoting to hire thousands of Canadian workers versus temporary foreign ones. Sensible move as unemployment is high among young Canadians and the pool of foreign workers has shrunk. For context, the starting wage at Tim Hortons is close to $20 an hour here.
In the last couple of years, I’ve heard reports of Tim Hortons pushing out Canadian workers and replacing them with TFWs. St. John’s is a very white town. When I moved here close to 10 years ago, the percentage of people who were of a visible minority was likely sub-5%. In the last few years, the vast majority of fast food workers shifted from predominantly white people to Indians.
Our unemployment rate has ranged from 7 to 10+%, yet Dairy Queen claims they can’t find a grill cook in St. John’s. Meanwhile on reddit and local talk radio, I hear people complaining about applying for dozens to hundreds of jobs and not getting a response. Also many calls about their kids being unable to get a job at a fast food restaurant.
I think this cut back on TFWs is long past due. Based on the complaints im hearing from the restaurant lobby, my impression is that they’ve been using the easy ability of TFWs to suppress wages of all their employees.
I am assuming that you have Indians that come for study purposes and then do those type of jobs in order to gain PR?
That covers a portion of it.
