I hope he doesn’t have to listen to her yell, er, sing.
It’s beyond understandable how all Americans aren’t going crazy about an elected rep being specifically denied being …elected… over clearly political things.
I’m once again suggesting that ‘in any reasonable country’ people would be going apeshit over this, no matter what side of the aisle they were on.
The fact that half of americans are completely nonchalant about this speaks volumes about americans.
At the moment, Johnson has plausible deniability in the sense that the House is not in session, and she’ll be sworn in when the House returns to session.
That, of course, overlooks the fact that Johnson has sworn in two Republicans who joined through by-elections while the House was in recess…but most American voters are paying less attention to this shenanigans than, say, folks on here.
It’d be a bigger deal if he refuses to swear her in when the house returns to session.
That being said, the House does have the legal authority to refuse to seat anyone…but I don’t think the US is so far gone (yet) that House leadership would act on that authority for anything short of, say, a major felony.
A seminal moment in US politics
A third of the country has been raised to hate liberals and don’t care. Another third of the country just blocks out the news as noise in their lives. The remaining third has the reality of daily life and is trying to manage their outrage over the sheer volume of nonsense that Republican’s shit out daily. Unless something pisses off that middle third enough to start caring, we are really just waiting for the next election.
Not really. It’s more of a logical consequence of many decades of apathy, a three-ish decades of infotainment, and a decade-plus of social media echo chambers.
A few folks have pointed out that the potential closure of the I-5 would coincide with the No Kings protests scheduled for this weekend.
Id like to think that the craziness in the US wouldnt happen in canada, but we already have a mini version in our ontario premier. Not as bad ad the US, and theres no anger and hate, but he definitely does some shady shit alongside some very popular things.
When elected, he gave his nephew a political appointment. That nepotism shouldve sunk him, it didnt. People have already forgotten. And theres various concerns that hes got deals going with developers. All of this means we should be protesting outside of his office.
Except he got rid.of a lot of onerous liquor regulations, that people see in their everyday life and i agree strongly with. Hes building highways, which is arguable but again, people are dealing with stupid levels of traffic everyday. And he was first out of the gate at strongly condemning the US.
Unlike trump, theres no hate. And the stuff hes doing isnt just performative. But hes definitely a crook doing a lot of very popular stuff. I bet he gets elected next time.
I was trying to be punny about the truck nuts…
If they can prevent one Democrat from sitting…
Reality is still that only 1/3 of the country cares about that.
Shoot him in the face. Smart countries like Canada should recognize the political cancer and remove the tumor before it becomes malignant.
I have been informed by my wife I am not allowed to go back to my bad old days.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the House comes back into session. I agree is horrible looking and he brought it back to seat a couple R’s. But the House can’t remain on recess for ever, can they?
Stop giving them ideas!!!
Although they could steal an idea from history:
This is awesome! I grew up in Lafayette. I attended Purdue with a dad that was a IU alumni and high value donor. I don’t know about now, but the rivalry between these two schools was crazy in the 70’s and the 80s.
Clickbait that an algorithm just served to me – our Glorious Leader’s current net approval ratings by state:
