Does anybody think that this post is racist?

Personally I think the cauliflower is a lousy substitute for pizza crust. But the second half of the “joke” is disturbingly racist. What exactly is “disturbingly white” about Fox?

If a poster had something similar but it ended with “black” or “gay” or “trans” or “Asian” we all know it would be immediately removed (and rightfully so). I guess it’s OK to say racist things about being white. I find the post inappropriate and think it should be removed. I did flag it but have not received a response.

Personally, I don’t care for “jokes” that put down white people (or men or straight people or Christians), but there definitely seems to be a belief among many that it’s ok to insult non-marginalized groups… just not marginalized groups.

DW Simpson made a point to instruct us not to moderate on that basis (ie treat a joke denigrating white people exactly the same as you would the same joke denigrating black people) but I suspect the owners of this site have a different take. (Just a guess though… I don’t actually know for sure, but if you’re not getting a response on your report then that seems likely.)

It doesn’t denergrate white people, it denergrates an extreme lack of diversity

That’s an interesting interpretation since the quote says “disturbingly white” and not “disturbingly not diverse”. I guess you’re measuring “diversity” by skin color and not by political thought.

Sean Hannity who actively pushed for Trump on election night is another.

youre assigning a stance that doesn’t exist either way.

Are we also now allowed to insult other posters? or is the rule still to attack their post, but not the poster?

VA: Moderator edit to remove quoted post that has been removed.

Note that the best way to address this sort of problem is to flag the post. If enough people flag the post, the platform will auto hide it until a moderator can address it directly.

But yes, the expectation is to make comments about the content of a post, not negative comments about the poster.

I don’t like it. Chinatown is disturbingly Asian. Hollywood is disturbingly gay. The Baltimore slums are disturbingly black.

I think there’s a subtle irony to the joke-- use a racist sounding phrase to call out racists, but it’s not subtle or good or accurate enough and is definitely vomit inducing without the irony.

He had to flee in a canoe.

In context, could be funny

That is discriminatory, as they are present and obvious, though not predominant.
This is saying any OUT gays disturb you

sadly true

Not predominant, but disproportionate enough to be “disturbing” which is vague enough to work as a dog-whistle in my examples.

I do think it’s meant to be about diversity (most similar to chinatown), but it’s intentionally unclear.

“This town is disturbingly black” would be obviously racist… The notion that it’s some nuanced claim about diversity is ridiculous. So unless you can’t be racist against white people it stands to reason “This town is disturbingly white” is similarly racist.
