I dislike the idea of mocking Hegseth for being an alcoholic for a couple of reasons. First, it isn’t fair to other alcoholics to turn their disease into a source of ridicule. Second, even though being an alcoholic was considered disqualifying for Sec. Def. as recently as Bush’s administration, it doesn’t compete with Hegseth’s utter lack of competence, racism, sexism, and insecure “let’s act tough” attitudes in terms of his damage to the position.
If he fully quit drinking, or at least has committed to no drinking while Secretary, I agree. He can’t have the fog of even a couple drinks the night or even the week before following him around if he is expected to make real decisions.
While I do agree that mocking someone for a disease is inappropriate, I’ve viewed Hegseth’s association with alcohol to be an element of his portrayal of toxic frat boy masculinity as being the ideal for the military. In that context, I think it’s very much fair game.
I guess that drawing of Trump would make any partner seem like an improvement.
Not sure I’d trust that Trump brand quality control
Maybe it’s a statement about the death spiral that is deflation?
