Actual statement by Celine Dion:
Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump/JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.…And really, that song?
I thought you had to have a heart to use the song “My Heart Will Go On”?
Nice to see Celine still has her sense of humour as well as her voice.
Surprised that Trump folks are still using unauthorized songs after they were threatened with suits from Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and other artists when Trump used their songs without authorization in his 2015/16 campaign.
Just another lawsuit. Throw it on the pile with all the others.
Because Trump operates ethically and within the bounds of the law.
I saw speculation that perhaps one of the team was trolling him by playing the main song from The Titanic
Melania finally joins Trump on the campaign trail.

Wasn’t there an article a while back that explained song use, and that if the venues have generic music rights like ASCAP or whatever the artists can’t stop it, and the “cease-and-desist” stuff is legal bluster and virtue-signaling? I have no problem with artists saying “I don’t like [candidate]” or even “I don’t like them using my song”, but if they sold the rights, they sold the rights.
ETA, not exactly what I remembered:
Toward the bottom:
In the US, campaigns are required to obtain a Political Entities License from the music rights body BMI, which gives them access to more than 20 million tracks for use in their rallies.
Artists and publishers can ask for their music to be withdrawn from the list, but it seems that organisers rarely check the database to ensure they have clearance.
…
Cases rarely, if ever, head to court - with both sides typically backing down after a flurry of legal letters.
I don’t necessarily agree with the views expressed (although Harris/Walz do seem to be focusing on their best selling point – that they’re responsible adults who aren’t Trump, without too much additional detail percolating up to media attention), but I appreciate the humor.
What’s an OPE?
Me too. Waiting for the “humor” part.
