Perpetrators of Mass Shooting - death sentence or not

there are unintended consequences, of course

free drugs in prison will make committing crimes a win-win situation for most criminals. If you don’t get caught it’s a win, and if you go to prison that’s sort of a win too

I would like to hear some of these societal fixes you have in mind

I have many fixes in mind as well. For one we need to stop expunging juvenile records. And once juvenile delinquents reach age 18 they are simply transferred to an adult facility to serve out the remainder of their sentence.

FTK!!!

I agree for severe crimes. I think that’s part of the rationale for trying them as adults.

I doubt it’s very common but I recall an interesting Law & Order where they were solving a decades-old murder (I think the body was newly discovered) and it turned out the killer was like a 12-year-old girl who was now 35 or something. But the maximum sentence was to be incarcerated in a juvenile facility until her 18th birthday and due to her age at the time she committed the murder she couldn’t be tried as an adult… only as a juvenile.

So despite the fact that there was no statute of limitations on the murder, there was effectively a statute of limitations on her punishment and she got off scot free.

The death penalty lazy and held onto as a way to plea bargain criminals down to life imprisonment. States should get rid of it.

Plea Bargaining in the United States: A Perversion Of Justice | Cairn International Edition (cairn-int.info)

The data are unmistakable. In fiscal year 2010, the prevalent mode of conviction in U.S. District Courts of all crimes was by plea of guilty (96.8% of all cases). The percentage ranges from a relative low of 68.2% for murder to a high of 100% for cases of burglary, breaking and entering. With the exception of sex abuse (87.5%), arson (86.7%), civil rights (83.6%) and murder (68.2%), for all other crimes the rate of convictions by plea of guilty is well over 90%.

With regards to mass shooters and other violent crimes, states should focus on addressing the causes, personal and systemic of domestic violence. Giving victims (particularly child victims) and perpetrators treatment, counseling, care, and incarceration when needed with long term monitoring to address the PTSD effects of domestic violence we would greatly reduce the violence in society.

How about, you flip a coin. Heads, free drugs. Tails, your arm is placed in a box full of scorpions for the rest of your life.

how about this:
in order to get free drugs you have to agree to get castrated

I think that’s a controversial subject.

Agree to surgical castration, get paroled for a sexually based offense earlier than otherwise.

Agree to surgical castration, get narcosexuals while serving your life sentenence.

Agree to surgical castration, have a chance to get your gun rights restored, where you may not otherwise.
