Omicron

Ok, I thought the CDC admitted earlier they were way off on percentage omicron.

Also, absolute number of infections is up so much, even a low % delta could be a high #

The incubation period was typically 5 days for the first wave (range of 2-14 days, with a negligible % after day 10 IIRC). Delta was down to 4 days, and Omicron is reportedly 3 days:

The line at the testing center across the street is like 100 people long and it’s below freezing outside

Could save them all some time: if they didn’t have the Omicron before standing in that line, they probably have it now.

Are you positive?

My wife’s test was negative. I can’t access mine on the phone. I have no symptoms.

I am positive that Mr Bean Milk should quarantine if he has a sore throat & fever, regardless of which bug is causing it.

But needs to be able to differentiate as treatment is different.

Our BinaxNOW tests are used up and now are hard to find.

It’s only been 3.5 days, but now I am symptomatic. Guidance is 5 days or as soon as you develop symptoms. But I literally couldn’t summon the energy to put on my coat & shoes and drive to a testing center so I will try again tomorrow.

Hope you feel better soon. Are you able to make an appointment for tomorrow?

ah, if you have symptoms and know you were exposed, you likely can assume you have covid.

if you cannot summon the energy, just go on that assumption, and refresh the walmart website for availability of binax now tests. that was part of my rationale of wanting those tests. if i’m sick enough to have symptoms, i’m not gonna want to drag myself to get tested.

If I were you, and had the option, I would assume I had covid and isolate per CDC guidance. Not sure what a test would do at this point given how far past exposure you already are, unless you need a positive test for some other reason, like work.

I’d want to know for sure that I had covid, but if you’re too weak to leave your house to confirm it, then ya, just assume it.

I think knowing is good because once you recover you can live your life without worrying about getting covid again, at least for the short term until it mutates again.

Yeah. Antibody testing is also a way to confirm a prior infection if you don’t get a positive but want to confirm. I’m considering doing that for me and my husband, after this wave is all said and done, if we don’t test positive beforehand.

Yeah, my mom agrees with @NerdAlert and said something pretty close to “who cares about getting tested; you obviously have it.”

I’m kind of thinking like @ao_fan and would prefer to have confirmation… just cause. Probably cause less anxiety and I just want to know.

True, but then you still have to go through the hassle and then you also have to pay for it. Might as well go through the hassle now and get tested for free. Plus I assume I’d find out sooner.

Also, I think I can go back to leaving the house sooner if it’s not Covid, right?

Are you able to find PCR testing around you? Here I can’t find anything for a week out, so if I were in your shoes, I don’t think I would bother. But it sounds like you might have better access than I do. If you can get in tomorrow, might as well do it, if you’re not too sick.

yeah, I’d be shocked if you don’t have it given that you were exposed and have symptoms, but i’d still wanna know for sure in your shoes.
