Doomed by an impossible blunder, but had I avoided it at best I would have had a 50-50 on word 5.

Closely related to my impossible blunder. I first tried FOCAL on 5, which I thought was helpful, since it showed there was an F in 8. Hence FINER not MINER. Oops. F cannot not be first, an INFERence that flew right by. Even had I not used a guess for FINER, I would not be sure whether VOCAL or LOCAL.
