Failed Octordle yesterday too. Today I felt like I started ok and then still used all my guesses. At least I finished.

Got mine with 1 guess to spare - lucky I got the last one with just 3 yellows to work with
No need for me to FREAK out at this one. Was no FLUKE that I got it with 2 guesses to spare
I havenāt played this game much and was kind of struggling with a strategy, itās a lot to deal with.

True, seems that it would probably be best to throw out as many different letter combos as possible in the first 3 guesses, but I still have the tendency to try to knock off at least one of them early on.

So far Iāve resisted playing at all. Based on Quordle, my current strategy (toward the objective is getting all 4 in time) is:
- Use 15 different letters in your first 3 guesses, almost independent of how well you do on them.
- Be reluctant to take a shot at a word early, especially if you are aware of two or more possibilities for it.
2a. As a very particular case, suppose you have 4 greens and know two possibilities for the remaining letter. Even though you will have to use a guess eventually to get it right, better to wait, using one of the two letters in a guess toward another word, and then youāll find out if that letter is right for your 4 green case.
2b. If you think thereās only one possibility, maybe better still to work elsewhere. Possibly youāll turn up info that shows you your possibility was wrong.
2c. Very specific case: suppose you have 4 greens and think the only possibility is a letter that hasnāt been guessed yet. Then take the shot now. (if you are right that itās the only possibility) you would have to guess it eventually anyway, and youāll get info about that letter for the remaining words.
2d. Very specific case: suppose you have 4 greens and think the only possibility is a repeat of one of those 4 letters. Perhaps best overall strategy is NOT to try for it, especially if that letter doesnāt appear at all in any of the other words, because youāre guaranteed not to learn anything about the other words. (and if your āonly possibilityā was not the only possibility, maybe youāll find out along the way.) OTOH, there is some plus to instant gratification.
