You’re not wrong. Uwaterloo has had a large influx of international students, and the food choices in the area are no kidding, unbelievable. Check out this list in this reddit post - these are the restaurants in one single plaza right beside the university. And that doesn’t count the plaza right across the street from that one, that has another dozen or so international restaurants including more asian restaurants, and some middle eastern and arabic restaurants:

And within a few blocks, restaurants from just about any asian/indian specialty you want.
When I first went to school there in the 80’s, the same plaza had one restaurant - a pub. McGuinness Landing for those that remember that. Now whenever I want to try some wild and crazy international meal I’ve got a one stop shop with more selection than I can digest.
