MN State Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed in a politically motivated assassination. Another state senator and his wife were shot. The shooter impersonated a police officer. Allegedly there is a manifesto and a target list. Shooter is still at large.
Allegedly the shooter parked what appeared to be a police car with lights in the victims driveways, and had convincing police clothing, badge, and demeanor.
I thought Hortman was still alive when I first heard the news this morning. Unfortunately she’s dead.
Hoffman still seems to be alive at least from what I can tell.
Horrifying.
Gunman had a flyer in his vehicle for the No Kings event. Police are asking everyone in MN not to go to any of the planned demonstrations.
This is cross-postable to a number of places, but the idea of a second US Civil War is much more real than many want to admit. This is not going to be an isolated incident, someone else is going to try this elsewhere. If they get away with it, if Trump and his cronies give them cover in any and every way they can, it’s a green light for more political violence.
I know, that sounds like some far-fetched hyperbole, but we’ve seen what’s happened in the first 5 months of Trump’s term. There’s 43 more to go, and he’s going to spend that time trying to increase his control and hold power at all costs. It’s going to get worse - much worse - between now and then.
I think I’ve expressed the opinion here previously that the US has been in a de facto cold civil war for several years.
I hope it doesn’t go hot, but it’s hard not to look at the news and wonder.
Got presidential pardon written all over it
Nah. Dude’s a Tampon Tim appointee. That has more Radical Left Lunatic written all over it.
She was killed for not being RLL enough.
The latest news I’ve read says that the prior Republican Governor appointed this doofus (as he is a Republican) to some minor position and Waltz didn’t remove him. It was supposedly a bi-partisan commission.
It’s amazing that things are so f*ed up that an appointment to a bipartisan commission is just assumed to be a partisan appointment.
He killed the dog. They should be looking for him in South Dakota.
