I shared that response with my wife after she got off the phone from dealing with the latest bit of family drama, and after appreciating the invocation of one of her favorite movies she said, “well, that’s about right”.
I declined to remind her of the implications of turning down my willingness to rebook our trip to Alabama for November-December-ish rather than June given that some of the recent drama is a dying central air conditioning unit…
At least it’s a dry heat. Oh wait, you said Alabama not Arizona? Yep, you’re in for a sweaty time. Sorry.
The local TV weathercasters down there take the summer off and are replaced by a recording indicating the forecast is “hazy, hot, and humid with afternoon pop-up thunderstorms”.
My driver’s license expires Monday. When I upgraded my license to an enhanced one last year, they told me that updating my photo at that time would let me renew online. I didn’t like the new photo, but no appointments were available, so I debated whether to just renew online vs wait as a walk in. Today I tried to renew online, but got a message that I wasn’t eligible. The DOL is opening late today for training, so as I’m in line waiting for them to open, I overheard someone else say they could book an appointment, so I tried. Appointment successfully scheduled for opening time today.

My wife probably shouldn’t have been annoyed, as that mother lode ended up being in her family tree too.
Instead, she has to endure my new pet name for her, “cousin,” as we’re supposedly 23rd cousins, twice removed.
I mixed up the last of my sourdough starter with regular flour and yeast. It baked up real nice and is now cooling.

Need to pack today, leaving early Sunday morning for a Monday cruise out of Seattle. 8 business days off work. Yay!
The happy part of that is, of course, the vacation. It’s needed. I’m at E.
The annoyed part is everything that goes into being able to leave on a vacation: getting everything at work settled and delegated, packing, anxiety of flying, etc.
Every time I take more than a day of PTO, I end up asking myself: “why am I doing this?” because of the headaches associated with getting ready to go;
I suppose I could do “staycations”…but they don’t help with the change in scenery that I periodically need for mental health, and don’t get through work anymore now that the folks I work with are more comfortable with meeting over Teams.
Good news of the day: my mother-in-law didn’t kill us, herself, or others driving after insisting she take us out to lunch, and there wasn’t an abnormal amount of drama during our visit.
Bad news of the day: our first flight home this evening is delayed enough that there’s a nontrivial chance I, my wife, and my wife’s wheelchair pusher will be sprinting from one gate to the next at ATL this evening…
something something department of homeland security. my son was in his way to Alaska today, and the flight got cancelled. Welcome to a 3 hour drive at rush hour to pick him up from the airport and a two hour drive back tomorrow. Not the day for that. now it’s 9pm and in getting back to work.
I’m too effing old to sprint from the end of one concourse to the end of another concourse!!!
At least we didn’t get stuck at ATL overnight!

All vacations must come to an end.
But I’m not going back to work until Thursday!
My son’s gf and I just drove an hour to pickup a porch swing. So that was a fun roadtrip. But she paid for the swing sight unseen and yeah, looks like I’ve got some work to do this weekend. It probably should’ve gone to the dump but the cleverly avoided taking some pictures showing the actual state. Too late, they had their money.
yay me, i take a multi vitamin. well, 4 days a week when im at work. but i should NOT have bough the 275 tablet bottle. things are horse pills. and I have like 2 years of them. maybe I am learning to understand why all things are available in gummy form these days
I wish I could take a gummy, but iron is the thing I need most and those either don’t come in gummy form (kids can OD on them), or they taste terrible. Horse pills for me…
