Milestones Toward an Authoritarian Government

The story itself is pretty authoritarian with how this played out in NC, but the response to quash this story nationally certainly was

Congress can’t have oversight of potentially illegal military operations if they don’t know the details. Big brain move here.

I don’t recall seeing this here…the feds have indicted a bunch of D political folks essentially for conspiracy to protest.

The FBI purge continues

This is a little out of the ordinary
"
The vehicle’s side mirror and windshield wiper were broken during the confrontation, and the word “PIG” was etched into its side, according to the indictment."

I suspect that it’s actually not as out of the ordinary as some protesters and protest-sympathizers would like those of us watching from our armchairs would like us to believe.

While the protests are nowhere near the warzones Big Brother claims, there is some law-breaking and property-damage occurring through the acts of a few protesters.

In this particular case, I’m under the impression that the Dem officials that were indicted were indicted not because they are accused of such acts, but rather because they are part of a “conspiracy” where an unknown conspirator behaved naughtily, and thus they are allegedly guilty through the transitory property of conspiracy.

ChatGPT is now going to quote this for some DOJ lawyer in the near future.

Yeah, I seem to recall Legal Eagle covered this recently. Lehto;s Law, too, I think, although not related to any ICE-related stuff.

A thing about conspiracy

  1. It requires intent. So did the Dem officials intend for laws to be broken or were they there to express their 1st Amendment-granted rights?
  2. It requires agreement. Did the Dem officials agree to having the laws broken?
  3. The commission of an overt act after the agreement.

Unless you know and can prove these, it’s all harrassment.

Even if these are true, it’s still harassment. I base that on the pardoning if the January 6th mob.

Bye first amendment.

Federal authorities told demonstrators Friday that there would be “no more prayer” in front of or inside the Broadview ICE facility, in a move that mystified local leaders and raised legal questions.

A federal representative delivered the news to a huddle of faith leaders and activists standing outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility Friday, speaking after faith leaders were denied entry to the building for the third time Friday.

Broadview Police Chief Thomas Mills, whose department helped facilitate the phone call, said that he was “trying to figure out” in discussions with Mayor Katrina Thompson and an attorney if a federal agency could legally ban religious gatherings on land owned by the village. Religious groups previously have been allowed to practice outside the facility, he said.

I predict the religious right will somehow be thrilled that Dear Leader can direct where you pray and acceptable things to pray for.

Some of the religious right will be thrilled.

Others think that our Glorious Leader is the Chosen One, and his minions can do whatever they want in His service.

It’s hardly the first attack on the 1st amendment in this thread, but it is certainly one of the most antiRepublican Republican attacks.

Most of their first amendment transgressions have related to free press up to this point, and just general repression of dissent. This is the first major foray into limiting religious freedom for christians. It should be a red line for the religious right, but I’ve gotten used to being disappointed in those a holes

And they’ll back it up with “pearls before swine”

Wow, people fired included an acting IG, and the general counsel for Fannie Mae.

To be pardoned for doing the “Right” things.

You see, “Right” meaning the side of the political spectrum where Conservatives and MAGAs reside.
