Justification per Chicago media is that ICE didn’t have a criminal warrant.
If you’re not white, carry a copy of your US passport, green card, or valid visa all the time. Email a copy to yourself and download one to your phone.
If you’re a US citizen and don’t have a passport, apply for one immediately.

Jan 24 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump fired 17 independent watchdogs at multiple government agencies on Friday, a person with knowledge of the matter said, eliminating a critical oversight component and clearing the way to replace them with loyalists.
The inspectors general at agencies including the departments of state, defense and transportation were notified by emails from the White House personnel director that they had been terminated immediately, the source said on condition of anonymity.
The dismissals appeared to violate federal law, which requires the president to give both houses of Congress reasons for the dismissals 30 days in advance.
But if you are trans, don’t apply for one with your correct gender marker because they won’t issue it and it isn’t clear if or when you will get documents back.

This turned out to be Secret Service, not ICE. School administrators thought they might be ICE agents so that’s what got reported but they were not.
Secret Service was (allegedly) there to investigate a threat.

BTW, I didn’t know that investigating threats at schools was part of Secret Service’s purview. I ignorantly thought they protected people and that was mainly what they did.
Per reporting (maybe local paper link, don’t have it currently, sorry) they went to a residence and were told the person they wanted to interview was at the school. They went to the school and weren’t admitted. I don’t think the threat was against the school.

I believe the Secret Service has jurisdiction in investigating threats against the President and Vice-President.
They aren’t, however, immune from the requirement that they have a judicial warrant or probable cause to enter a property if the property owner (or school administration, in this case) don’t want them there.

Federal employees have been told to name names or face adverse consequences. My son who works for the federal government told me that there is a special website where informants can inform.
Part of me wants to flood sites that want that information with the names of unabashed pro-Trumpers.

If I remember correctly quite a few MAGA primary opponents went down in flames in the last round. I’m wondering how many people are doing the math on how long til they got to be re-elected, how much of a lame duck is Trump going to be in 2-3 years and how tired of Trump are the voters going to be by the next election cycle.
I’ll note that Ron DeSantis is already losing his grip over Florida politicians.
