Milestones Toward an Authoritarian Government

We are talking about Trump here.

The last month tells me that this conclusion is a failure of imagination.

Well you’ll never hear me claim that Trump is an eloquent speaker but I do like to restrict my criticisms to things he’s actually saying and doing (of which there is SO MUCH to criticize).

If you won’t write a legal opinion to defend an illegal action, you’re fired.

This was very interesting from the FT today

That’s rough for me to interpret. Left is more liberal, up is more progressive? The unnecessary ellipsis on “More pro…” rather than having more letters for context made me laugh.

I have my definitions of those words, but similarly to sex vs. gender, when the topic is under a microscope it helps to be clear about definitions. I’d say over half of the US mentally categorizes liberal/progressive/Democrat/leftist (and to MAGA, Marxist/Communist/socialist) as all the same ideology.

Edit: Realizing the x-axis is liberal/conservative and the y must be “international cooperation”. Having them oriented the same direction threw me. So must be like, “more pro-cooperation.”

Check his internet history IMO.

Schriver has also voted against a measure to restrict child marriage, called for banning contraception and promoted the “Great Replacement Theory” on social media, garnering harsh criticism in his brief time in the Michigan Legislature. Schriver was first elected in 2022, and he represents Michigan’s 66th House District.

Huh, that’s unfortunate. I mean, hardly shocking, but unfortunate.

Thanks for sharing.

Seems relevant here too…

Maybe we should go after people who want the First Amendment to be ignored when it comes to people they don’t like, but protects themselves.
“First Amendment for me, not for thee!”

The governor of Maine stood up to Trump when he directly attacked her. Now in Maine, and only Maine, parents of newborns can no longer get a SSN for their babies at the hospital and instead have to go in person to a SSA office. Presumably pure coincidence and not retaliation.

“Guns for me, not for thee!”
Or:
“When guns are outlawed, only friends of the President will have guns.”
