So, on hold with Geek Squad (possible not even there on a Sunday).
The washer stopped running during cycle. The panel won’t light, and there are wet towels inside and the lid is locked.
Might actually go to the local Best Buy to schedule an appointment. It’s next to a Total Wine, so not a major out-of-the-way locale. Now, to find my receipt… did wife or I buy this?
Check you credit card, if you have the cc they would be able to look it up and you shouldn’t need the receipt.
As an aside, in the future, take a picture of the receipt and name the picture Maytag Washer and you can look for it by name when you need it.
Good stuff!
I usually keep all my manuals in a specific drawer in the the garage. Alas, it is not there.
Found two different model numbers on it. And neither are model numbers, according to Maytag.
Fun fact: one of the locations of a model number is under the lid.
See Post #1.
Did you try leaving it unplugged for awhile?
Done all that can be found online. Unplugged it for a minute, 20 minutes, all day.
I believe the the display is fucked/bricked, which I, a luddite, had predicted when we bought it.
Good news! We bought it two years ago! And it’s already broken ! Good news! We bought a five-year extended warranty!
So I go to BestBuy, ask a Geek about it, and he gives me a card with a number on it to call. Great!
So I called it, and 20 minutes later someone finally picks up.
Someone is coming on Wednesday.
Now, to Maytag.com for instructions on how to open a bricked washer, so we don’t have molding clothes.
Wife found the pick-up e-mail, so I have a Model Number.
I’m not opening this up!
Huh, doesn’t seem too difficult. I want to get the clothes out. That’s important. Don’t need any more after a minute or so.
Seems to be some kind of warranty voider tape back there. If I open this solely to get the clothes, will that void my warranty?
OK, I had no tape back there, so I did as instructed in the first minute of the video, and the towels are out.
Maybe I’ll put that new audio deck in my car. Last one lasted 11 years, or so my hotmail tells me, and i put that one in (only one fuck-up: broke the outline of where the deck goes). Original lasted 11 years as well.
Most I’ve had to do to my Maytag washer was replacing the pump motor.
How obnoxious!
I understand why front loaders have to lock. Why do top loaders have to lock? I have a new top loader that locks and I wish it didn’t.
Kids. And lawyers.
My complaint is that when the display panel or electronics went out, it stayed locked. Worse than a Tesla, though no one is inside the washer and slowly drowning.
…that you know of.
Btw, has anyone seen the cat lately?
Agree, but the loss of your clothing to mold could have significant financial consequences.
Certainly the default should be that it is unlocked unless it should positively be locked. (But really it shouldn’t even be capable of locking IMHO.)
That is why I went to Google and YouTube to determine how to “unlock” it.
That it does not unlock when unplugged and then plugged in (after a time) tells me that the electricity isn’t getting to the panel for some reason.
Right; your actions are perfectly rational. Maytag’s design is not.
Well, there was a way to get the clothes out, so. C+?
If it didn’t void your warranty then perhaps. How much hassle was it on a scale of 1-10?
I’ll find about about the warranty on Wednesday, but I’ll defend myself on that.
Very easy. The first minute of that video explained it pretty well (except for the “unhook the hoses” part), and I didn’t bother with the rest, since it is under warranty and I didn’t have the parts. Thing is only TWO YEARS OLD!
“Terrible Two’s” indeed!
Heh
If “very easy” also meant that you didn’t have to pull it out from its living space then I’d rate that a C+… B- if the instructions are also in the owner’s manual and clear to follow and your use of YouTube was based on your convenience and not necessity.
If you had to pull it out then that knocks it down because while that might be very easy for you, it would not be for someone like my mother. Same with a YouTube video vs owner’s manual.
Why didn’t I think about your mother???
I mean easy, for me, because there were 8 screws, top slid and opened off just like the video said. (Note: I could not find my owner’s manual due to a refurb, had a hard time determining the Model number until wife found the receipt in her e-mail).
I am about this handy. Any more would require my asking friends to help.
That sounds like you had to pull the washer out.
D+ for Maytag.
A for you.
