I’m conflicted. Usually I root for whomever knocked me out for the championship but also want to root for the reluctant underdog.

Good game @Ted_Hoffman :clinking_beer_mugs:

Wouldn’t that just be NerdAlert at this point?

Started as March Madness mimicking the college tournament and might not end until the NBA has their finals.

Is this the longest that the tournament has ever lasted?

@JFG - I was not expecting to meet in back-to-back years, I figured once it was 0-2 I might finally be a little cooked.

GG, let’s see if we can land on opposite sides of the bracket next year.

I’m not saying, I’m just saying if you’re trying not to win there’s easy ways to accomplish this.

I submitted my throws through the end over a week ago, it’s in the universe’s hands now.

Actually, the whole tournament could theoretically be done this way, and full results calculated in a day. That’s less fun, but it’d be an interesting experiment for someone having the time to execute it. Or the AI token capacity to click a button or two.

RAND and RANDARRAY might do the trick!!!

Sort of like the Full-Season Pick’em game run by ######.

I think rand() or submitting throws in advance defeats the purpose of playing. If you think this game is fundamentally random luck, then why play?

Ultimately, anyone [see what I did there?] can choose how they want to play this tournament. If this were meep doing RANDBETWEEN(), would anyone bat an eye? If it came out that some past champion had made their throws based on where someone’s head of cattle pooped, would people be outraged? Hell, what if I was farming this out to my intern for $5? [Which … my kid has offered to be my intern numerous times over the years, for $5, and sometimes that’s an incredible value. One year, it was better value than my actual intern.]

Unless [until?] we’re all in-person and running the tournament, everyone decides on their own how they’re going to play. We should all respect that, even if we think that’s really weird, I’d never do that.

Now … to the business at hand, which is making [trying to make] sure NerdAlert doesn’t win and I don’t join urysohn as a back-to-back runner-up - and, to paraphrase Bartles & James, I thank all of you for your support.

RPS Finals - Game 1

All the games that were played were with this goal in mind: To make the Finals of the RPS tournament, and have a direct shot for the 2026 RPS Crown! Both of our contestants have made all (or at least enough) right moves to get here - now we will find out who has enough in the tank to get over the finish line!

With that said, keep in mind that both our players have won the exact same number of games in the RPS Finals, even though NerdAlert is in her rookie year, and Ted_Hoffman was in the Finals last year, so they’re on more of an equal basis than it may first appear…

So how’d the opening game go?

It only took two years, but Ted_Hoffman is finally on the Finals board!

P NerdAlert
S TedHoffman

Final Four!

TedHoffman defeats NerdAlert in Game 1, TedHoffman leads (1-0)
