finished the big week. and it was awesome!
Deer Tick was awesome, as always. My kid somehow parlayed the small gift for the band during soundcheck into backstage photo opp and chit chat after the show. sheâs a strong self advocate and the guys are really nice. if you have a chance to see them this year (or any year) I recommend highly.
Final song was with recently charged minneapolis protester/local musician Emmet Doyle, who performed his âBlizzard of Dicksâ with the band backing him. What song can you perform after a rousing âBlizzard of Dicksâ? none. that closed the set.
Saw Ariana Grande and Steve Aoki in the last week.
We got last minute tickets to see Cake last night. Really fun show.
my kid went to see them in Omaha friday night. said it was fun!

My wife wanted to go see âGrungefest,â a cover band doing exactly what you think. It was $50 for two tickets and it was a pretty great time. Oh, nostalgia.

Lionel Richie was wonderful, swigged âelectrolytesâ all (Monday) night long.

Cheap Trick, instead, decided to play The Troubadour in West Hollywood.
Does anyone have an issue with bands having backing tracks or recorded âassistanceâ with higher notes? Iâm trying to focus on truly live performances, but it can be difficult to tell. A lot of big $$ bands have surprising audio âsupportâ.

But, I did see Steve Howe with a backing band play the Fragile album in its entirety. Unusual choice of album, since each band member wrote a track for it, and only Steve Howe was on stage for this concert.
I paid less than $100, and Steve Howe is just as excellent as ever. The vocalist was great, and the rest filled in as session folks can adroitly do.
If all they do is show up wave their cap and mumble to the audience to kiss their big hairy ass, then Iâm not participating.

The Band were one of my all-time favourites so catching this on its Vancouver stop. The tribute band is excellent. Hard to believe it has been 50 years since The Last Waltz. A number of tour stops have been added since the poster below was produced.

Saw Interpol Friday night here in Santa Barbara. Weâve seen them a few times in the past and they always put on a good show. I should check out their new album. I liked the new ones they played. More of a shoegaze vibe.
Friday is my daughterâs birthday, so I am taking her to the Noah Kahan concert. She is very excited.
The Guess Who (Randy Bachman, 82, and Burton Cummings, 78) was much more lively than we expected.
The opening act, Don Felder, played the best of the Eagles, and has the REO Speedwagon (now-retired) lead guitarist for Joe Walsh. Phenomenal!
