Old people in Yes minus one dead guy are coming to town to the YouTube Theater, which is tucked away inside SoFi. Tickets are surprisingly cheap, and it seems that the top two tiers are closed off – or those seats are sold out and no one is reselling.
4th row Floor off to the side are $183.
Row D off to the side (Sec 101) is $68.
Row BB off to the side (Sec 101)is $43.
It appears that they are playing the “Fragile” Album. This is a thing nowadays with bands. I saw Green Day perform “Dookie” and “American Idiot” live. Saw The Boss play “Born to Run” Live, and he did a whole Tour doing The River (skipped that one). Tix are too expensive for two, so I let my wife go without me. Seen him enough, not getting that much better, and the new stuff – anything after “The Rising” – is bland. Not enough guitar even though Nils Lofgren is in the band.
Anyway, back to Yes. Saw them live in 1979 and 1984. Regularly play Yessongs on my iPod. Not sure how good they are these days. But $43, not bad.
On the topic, saw My Morning Jacket play their album Z last weekend. Fantastic album and even better live band, they really did it justice. Interestingly enough I saw them play the same album a few years ago, but backwards. Love that band.
Going to Yes tonight.
Tons of too-expensive tix, but I’m on an aisle six rows up from the Orchestra level.
Top two levels don’t seem to be sold at all.
$68.
Paid for by playing poker at Hollywood Park earlier.
Big week coming up!
Thursday - Titus Andronicus returns! Playing only the hits they say. Will be loud and a banger of a show.
Friday - TA again in madison. Kid can’t see them in MPLS (strict 21+) so we are dirving to madtown.
Next wednesday - Deer Tick is back w a new album (dropped this week). They never disappoint me. Me and my 20yr old going to the VIP soundcheck again and staying for the show.
2nd night - this time on road w my 20yr old - was just awesome. Same set, a couple of arrangement changes that worked well imo. Band was very appreciative of the effort to see them twice (say 250 fans each night) and we got a shout out from the stage at the end tonight. Also reprised a photo of lead singer w my kid (2019 original age 13, now 2026 age 20).
Since show was in wisconsin, kid looked up and yes, a sub-21 yr old can legally be served at a bar if parent is there. So she ordered a very good beer! Founders Rubaeus nitro draft.
I do like Founders but was surprised to see a MI beer on tap in WI, but it’s been a while since I’ve been there. 3 Sheeps in Sheboygan has an excellent nitro stout - Cashmere Hammer. I liked it much better than Left Hand Brewing Nitro Stout (from Colorado) which you see a lot in other states.
