(Even more curious – I received the message not at my address in the actuarial directories, or at my publicized work address…but rather at a Canadian version of my work address.)
So…what’s up? The website sounds sensational, but I wonder what the other side of the story is.
I logged in to report this too. I think they got my email from CAS directory. I was wondering what happened because it doesn’t really show the details on what the false accusation or false evidence was about. Then later I clicked the current members and it mentions welovethecas thingy, so I can kinda guess what this is about..
They did not get the address they used for me from the actuarial directories – I use my personal address there, not my work address…and this wasn’t even my “real” work address.
It is on an internal actuarial distribution for Canadian actuaries at my company, however.
If you didn’t have that email listed on cas or soa directory (which is separate directory) in the past when welovethecas collected emails few years ago, then someone at your company might have leaked your email address from that internal distribution list. Check soa directory first though. You might have that set up from long long time ago.
i wish I had the time to enter “support” using an infinite number of totally fake names. I don’t appreciate the manner in which they go about finding me to join the cause.
i believe i recall from the CoP that most reports to the ABCD don’t end in discipline. and i suspect all people reported find it stressful. i guess this is a story that corroborates that?
If the ABCD had had the foresight and courage to kick out the members that decided attacking DEI was good actually, then they wouldn’t be dealing with this now. Leopards eating faces and all that.
It’s not there. That address does leak in a few other places – I do get general risk management spam to that address, and as the address is in a [first name].[last name]@[domain] format, it’s not hard to guess – but for all intents and purposes, it’s a Canadian address, and thus not one that I’d expect someone lobbying against the ABCD to spam, unless they were being sloppy.
I didn’t get the spam at the address listed in the directories, my primary work address, or my UK work address…so I’m just being weirdly curious about the nature of their contact list.
So which WeLoveTheCAS person has their knickers in a bunch?
One of them threatened to sue me for $500,000 over online comments. Never went anywhere.
Edit: Ah, by inference I can tell which one likely lost his job. Or perhaps the person I’m looking at truly “retired”, but they’re not compliant on CE and appear to be unemployed.
Weird. I don’t see a Bob/Robert who’s ever been publicly reprimanded. Seems that their argument falls flat on their face without information on who was reprimanded.
Edit: Oh, I see the complaint. The ABCD recommended a reprimand. Instead, nothing was done and, per the website, the CAS rebuked the ABCD over it.
I read…skimmed, really… the 40-page “open letter” posted on the website.
I probably should have done that before starting this thread. It rounds out the picture about what the complaint is about.
I haven’t looked more closely at their specific calls for reform. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are at least partly reasonable, aside perhaps from taint due to the association with “love the CAS”.
I just finished the 40-page letter too. It starts to get wobbly around page 21, and around page 31 is starting to complain about mainstream media, Hollywood, the White House, and cancel culture.
Could have used a couple more rounds of revision, get it tidier.
There’s an entire discussion to be had around situations that probably merit discipline from the ABCD, but don’t end with any - and how that potentially deters others from making what are or should be valid complaints.
That’s for another day, when I (finally?) have time to engage in that discussion.
I know two of the people they list as non-anonymous members, and one is a person i have thought of as quite reasonable. I’m considering reaching out to the person to ask.
