Best Christmas Pageant Ever. My girls were in a community theatre production of this play when they were kids. One cast as Imogene and one as Alice. Fun memories. We mostly liked the movie.
I hope to view it within the next few days. Have always been a Dylan fan so that will probably affect my objectivity of the quality of the movie. Interesting choice of the actor to play Dylan, Timothée Chalamet.
I’ve been watching bad action movies at night to fall asleep (like Godzilla vs King Kong, Jurassic World Dominion, Pacific Rim, etc.). I put Captain America: Civil War on the other night, which was a huge mistake, since I was up late watching the whole thing. I’ve never been that into Captain America but now I need to watch the Winter Soldier.
Watched Winter Soldier last night. Great movie. I may just have to go back and watch all the original MCU movies (have seen about half of them).
I believe Winter Soldier was my favorite film of the whole MCU
Endgame, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and GotG3 are still top tier for me but I would put both Winter Soldier and Civil War in the tier just below that. Then again, I liked “Thor: Love and Thunder” so take my rankings with a grain of salt.
and not sure if it counts, really liked Logan
I tend to like the ones that have a different genre at the core
Streaming “Spectre” on Prime over the last few nights. I’ve got 22 minutes left. Never saw it, though “The Bond Series with Daniel Craig” is alright. Certainly a better actor than past ones.
Ooh. I think I skipped that one since I thought people said it was bad, but I may have gotten that mixed up with X-men Origins. I’m now seeing that Logan was well liked so I’ll have to add it to the list. I probably like the X-men movies as much or more than the MCU when they get it right (X2, Days of Future Past) but they’ve also had some bad ones.
Just watched it: loved it. Very nostalgic for two old folkies like my wife and me.
Timothée Chalamet was superb as Dylan: captured his arrogance and selfishness perfectly. Great performances as well by Edward Norton as Pete Seeger and Dan Fogler as Albert Grossman.
Logan is great, but … oof. To me it sits relative to the first few X-men movies like Unforgiven sits relative to old white/black hat westerns.
Anyway, Logan is a great film, but if you’re looking for spandex-clad idealism look elsewhere. You will just end up disappointed.
Yeah if you like x-men franchise you’ll definitely like Logan. But I agree with jraven’s assesment.
Started MI: Dead Reckoning Part 1 (Amazon).
I was looking for a light quirky movie and found I had an Aubrey Plaza movie waiting, so I thought “great”. But it was Emily The Criminal and she definitely is playing serious and not Aubrey Plaza and even though it looked like she was doing really good it just wasn’t what I was looking for. So I started Poor Things. It’s definitely quirky, but maybe not so light. Definitely interesting.
She is one of my favorites. Emily the Criminal is definitely not her usual fare, but I really enjoyed the stretch she needed to make.
The Wolfs on apple.
Clooney and Pitt are fixers who both get assigned to clean up the same weird messy situation. Was ok. Clearly set up for sequels
The creator (Amazon prime) bit of a hot mess about human AI war and who the good guys are.
The Walls of Jericho (1948) - dirty politics with Linda Darnell, Kirk Douglas
All Together Now (2020; Netflix) – A very touching and well done (IMO) movie about a homeless teen trying to make a difference . . . and hiding her status from her friends and other adults in her life.
King’s Faith (2013; saw it on Prime) - A faith-based, fictional story about an 18-year old aging out of the “system” and trying to leave his gang past behind.
Mrs. VA and I really enjoyed both movies.
I don’t usually watch a lot of movies but I’ve been off for a week (and still off until thursday). Good assessment on Logan - very different from your normal Xmen movie but I did end up enjoying it quite a bit. Also rewatched the first 3 Avengers movies. I never even realized the actor that voiced Thanos is Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men). Age of Ultron is kinda meh.
