Last movie you've watched

One Love, the Bob Marley biopic.
Kingsley Ben-Adir played Bob. He was pretty good. Now that song is stuck in my head.

Primer
Been wanting to rewatch this for years. It’s as good as I remember. Such a fun puzzle to keep track of who is who and why they are doing what they are doing.

did they turn Ben Kingsley inside out?

Yes they did, and they made him tall, dark, and handsome.

He was one of the Kens in the Barbie movie.

Harry Black and the Tiger (1958)

Nice Girls on Netflix. A French cop buddy movie that can’t decide what it wants to say. Does it want to support eco-warriors or is it against them? Is woke a thing? Is it good or bad? Can women be friends and have serios jobs as well? Are cops incompetent, dirty, heroes, all three? They are all over the place on these types of topics and more. I watched so you don’t have to.

The Union on Netflix. Wahlberg and Berry. Throw in J.K. Simmons and Jackie Earle Haley and you a get fun but not too taxing action flick. All but Marky Mark are in a clandestine organization, The Union, that actually gets the spy work done. He is a Jersey boy still living at home. Berry recruits him to The Union since they need someone who is unknown in their world. Oh, BTW, they dated in high school, when he peaked. Lots of action and OK dialogue. If you don’t take it seriously, it is a fun ride.

Axel F - ok
The Little Things - 2021 film w Denzel and Rami Maleck. also…ok.

We rewatched Beetlejuice last night. Captions on, so I could actually understand what Keaton was saying. So, pretty funny.
Long article about Winona in the LA Times’ “Entertainment” (formerly “Calendar”) section.

Reagan, bc hubby wanted to and actually ordered the tickets.

glossed over or honest?

It seemed to be Pro Reagan, but the Iran Contra Affair was mentioned. His life long suspicions of the USSR was a central focus.
It was highly suggested that he got by on charm and wit.

I didn’t follow politics enough when he was president to really be able to comment on how “right” they got it. For an older Gen-X’er like me, it seemed more nostalgic than anything else.

I kinda loved the focus on his relationship with Nancy.

Mr aj is more of a presidential history buff and he was a bit disappointed, fwiw.

LA Times seems too do this a lot: publish a feature article, a puff piece for an actor/actress, then a week later pan the movie they are in:

Last two nights I did a couple of nostalgia watches with the kids.

Big Trouble in Little China
This was one of my favorites back in the day. It’s a fun movie, and Kurt Russell is over-the-top and hilarious.

Labyrinth
Forgot how muppet-y this was. It’s fun, plenty of Bowie. Kids enjoyed it.

Yeah, Big Trouble in Little China is probably the most-played movie overall at my house.

My favorite line is when he calls the insurance company: “I’m gonna tell you about an accident and I don’t want to hear “act of God””.

Lol when he said that I thought of all you actuarials. Most people probably don’t even notice it, but it stands out to those in the industry.

Find Me Falling on Netflix. Harry Connick Jr as an aging rock star who had a bad album. He runs off to Cyprus to pout, buys a house on a cliff, the cliff that is known as a suicide destination. He ends up meeting a bunch of locals, then he sees the girl he wrote his biggest hit about. Then misunderstandings ensue. Not much comedy for a rom-com, but enjoyable enough.

I agree that Find Me Falling didn’t have a lot of comedy . . . but I thought character development was very well done.

The Eternal Sea (1955)

After recommending it to someone, I rewatched Stories We Tell, a documentary by Sarah Polley, about a secret in her family. It’s really very good.
